BenQ PE7700 DLP Projector Wins Acclaim – Review

BenQ’s PE7700 DLP Projector has pulled in some good reviews and ratings including “What Cinema’s award of “Product of the Year 2005-2006”.

Released March 2005, the PE7700 is a High Definition (HD) ready DLP projector with 1280×720 pixel native resolution, 1100 ANSI lumens brightness, 2500:1 contrast, native 16:9 widescreen format and a 5x speed six-segment color wheel.

The 1100 brightness puts it in the home cinema category for use in a dark or dimly lit room so that light does not wash out the screen image.

Texas Instrument HD2+ chip was a late 2003 improvement to DLP technology Texas Instruments state that the chips new fabrication process allows onscreen images to appear even more ‘film-like’, delivers contrast ratio improvements and some increase in brightness.

The 5x speed, six-segment color wheel is included to minimize rainbow effects inherent in DLP technology. This color wheel increases the number of bits used to process green light reducing ‘dithering’.

BenQ have included their SensEye technology in the PE7700:

  • Color Enhancement means color tones of the entire image are automatically assessed, adjusted, then reproduced with the optimum color balance.
  • Intelligent Progressive Scan, intelligently detects which areas have motion and which areas do not and processes them differently to create smoother motion.
  • Contrast Enhancement automatically analyzes image signals and adjusts the quality of brighter and darker portions separately aiming to make dark areas looks darker and bright areas brighter.

The PE7700′s Angle-Motion Compensation removes stair-stepping on diagonal moving images for more natural-looking and flowing moving images.

The PE7700 includes an integrated HDMI input for direct digital interface and optimal picture quality. HDMI alone can carry both uncompressed high-definition video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD format up to 1080p.

Warranties for the projector and lamp are three years (limited warranty) and one year, respectively.
