June 21, 2006Mitsubishi PK-20 DLP PocketProjector ReviewHow small can projectors go? Really small, if the palm size PK-20 PocketProjector Mitsubishi has was showing off at the recent InfoComm show in Orlando is a guide. This ultra-portable also boasts a very long lamp life, quick-on and quick-off functionality and the ability to run off batteries. Virtually any device with a video-out can be connected and projected. A convenient SD card reader allows instant set-up for presentations or sharing images. ![]() At 1 lb(450 grams) and dimensions (W x H x D) of 123mm x 47mm x 97mm (4.85” x 1.85” x 3.85”) the unit literally fits in palm of your hand. The key technology delivering some of this units breakthrough features is Philips Lumileds’ LUXEON technology which enables Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to match the brightness of conventional light sources and for the first time, making it possible to replace the traditional halogen bulb with smaller, longer-lasting and more energy efficient LEDs. The LEDs in this unit are rated to last more than 10,000 hours. A secondary benefit of LEDs is a cooler operating projector. The final benefit worth commenting on is that of the elimination of the often annoying warm up delay. The PocketProjector has a native XGA resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and a super short-throw lens with manually adjustable focus. The unit also has a brightness of 500Lux making it capable of projecting images in low ambient lighting situations. The contrast ratio is listed as 500:1. Mitsubishi have stated that the PocketProjector will be available in the third quarter of 2006 through authorized Mitsubishi dealers, with a three-year limited warranty on parts and labor.
