Panasonic PT-5600 and PT-DW5000 Projectors Review

The PT-5600 and PT-DW5000 were two of four new large venue DLP projectors introduced at InfoComm 2006 on June 6, 2006. According to Panasonic, “they are ideal for classrooms, conference rooms, control rooms and churches”.

Both projectors also have a single DLP chip and a 2000:1 Contrast ratio

Also included, is Panasonic’s BrightOpticTM Dual-Lamp technology which according to Panasonic “increases brightness and eliminates the need to interrupt a presentation if a lamp burns out (in dual-lamp operation mode). In single lamp mode, the lamp auto changer function allows non-stop 24/7 operation.”

For increased reliability each model also includes Panasonic’s liquid-cooling system that directly cools the DMD chip. Operating noise is also reduced by the lesser number of fans required with the liquid cooling system.

The 3D-Color Management System included to improve brightness over previous models by 15%, for sharper, cleaner color reproduction.

Both models have been designed with a sealed optical block to prevent damaging dust ingress.

Major differences between the projectors are as listed below:

PT-D5600

  • brightness of 5,000 lumens
  • resolution is 1024×768 pixels
  • Its panel size is 0.7” diagonal
  • powerful sensing to monitor performance
  • LAN connector making it easy to integrate and monitor within an existing network

PTD-W5000

  • 4,500 lumens of brightness
  • resolution of 1280×768 pixels (1600×1200 pixels compatible, compression mode)
  • panel size is 0.65” diagonal

Panasonic is planning to implement a premium maintenance service based on its new remote monitoring capability. Panasonic will be able to receive projector status notifications from a customers’ networks and provide appropriate service recommendations.
