A new HD-ILA line of rear projection, high definition TVs JVC announced on January 5 this year should be available in stores soon. Three of the line offer a native 1080p HDTV resolution with 56inch (HD-56FN97), 61inch (HD-61FN97) and 70inch (HD-70FN97) screen sizes.
JVC has been one of the stayers in the HDTV-LCoS technology stakes, with problems perfecting the technology and manufacturing processes (for viable yields) pulling other contenders up short. JVC report that they have made performance enhancements over previous models have been made to deliver advancements in standard and high definition picture quality.
The three 1080p televisions use JVC’s D-ILA microchips - LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon) based technology developed by JVC renowned for its minimal inter-pixel spacings for delivering bright, smooth images.
Features overview:
- There is an improved dynamic auto iris which continuously adjusts the video being displayed for optimum black levels. LCoS televisions have had poorer black and contrast ratios to DLP rear projection sets - this may change with this new line.
- All three sets resolve every pixel of 1080i sources with a 2 million pixel chip. All video sources are upscaled to display at full high definition of 1080p. Upscaling is handled by JVC’s Genessa 32-bit CPU video processing, incorporating the fifth generation of JVC’s D.I.S.T. (Digital Image Scaling Technology). D.I.S.T. also includes a Digital Noise Suppressor that detects and eliminates “block noise”
- According to JVC, “Standard definition signals are improved through better IP conversion, improved scaler performance and a new PLL system that improves the performance of a composite signal.”
- A Mosquito Noise Suppressor eliminates noise without degrading the image
- To eliminate cross color and dot interference that is imbedded in older source material, JVC have employed a 3D Y/C comb filter with DTV Cross Color Eliminator.
- Each set has two IEEE 1394 inputs, two HDMI inputs, two component inputs, PC input, and an AV output.
- Audio performance improvements have been made through the use of MaxxBass, digital signal processing that extends the perceived bass performance, and a built-in parametric equalizer for more accurate frequency response.
