August 24, 2006Onfinity CM2 Portable Interactive Whiteboard System ReviewOnfinity CM2 is a portable interactive whiteboard system which will allow any road warrior to give interactive software demonstrations or make presentations more engaging.
It’s a plug and play solution suitable for education, sales or professional use. The system is flexible being suitable for use with rear projection, LCD or plasma display. Additionally, when teamed with a digital projector, it can convert any soft or hard projection screen (or suitable surface) into an interactive whiteboard. The Onfinity CM2 can handle screen sizes up to 150 inches. The heaviest component is the signal receiver at only about 0.5lb.The Onfinity CM2 system consists of a special ePen, an optical receiver unit which is connected to a PC. The connection is USB which eliminates the requirement for a battery for the optical receiver. The PC is also connected to the display device. The Optical Position Dectection Technology (infrared signalling) used by Onfinity doesn’t require any attachments to the screen such as with other similar products such as eBeam. Setting up the ONfinity CM2’s is simple process as follows:
Onfinity advise that one should avoid strong light directly on the receiver and the projection surface. A possible detraction for some is the software’s support for Windows 98/2000/XP only. There are two styles of E-Pen, a shorter stylus E-Pen specially designed for writing and annotating and an extendable pointer E-Pen intended for presentations on large interactive screen. Like a mouse the E=Pens have two buttons for left and right clicks. The pens have a pressure recognition feature for software application control. The E-Pens can function in either touch-screen mode (with pen tip touching the whiteboard screen) or off-screen mode (pen must be positioned within about 4 inches of the display surface. The E-Pens need to be within about 17 feet of the signal receiver. Onfinity state that the E-Pens battery will generally last over one year on a single battery. As with other interactive whiteboards, presentations and other software applications can be highlighted and annotated. Highlights, annotations, and drawings can be added on the screen under any applications using the E-Pen. The FreeBoard software program, comes free with ONfinity Portable Interactive Whiteboard Systems an can record and replay any annotations generated by the E-Pen on screen. All annotated applications can be saved as Jpeg files to the PC. An annotation tool bar automatically switches on under the pen mode for applying various annotation functions including colour and thickness of lines, clear, save, and virtual keyboard. Onfinity CM2 Portable Interactive Whiteboard Systems come with a 2 year return to base warranty.
