Infocus Releases Play Big IN78EX DLP Digital Projector - Review

Infocus’s success in winning the European Imaging & Sound Association’s European Projector of the Year 2006-2007 was reported in our article European Projector of the Year Infocus Play Big IN76 Review.

Now Infocus have added the Play Big IN78EX home theatre projector to the Play Big family, which also includes the IN72 and IN74EX.

This projector has the very latest high definition Texas Instruments Digital Light Processing (DLP) DarkChip3. The chip supports Texas Instruments Brilliant Color technology.

The Infocus IN78EX includes a Pixelworks DNX (Digital Natural Expression) chip. Pixelworks is a semiconductor company that designs, develops and markets system-on-chip semiconductors and software for the advanced display industry. The DNX video-processing chip improves the quality of the source video through specialized enhancement techniques. The chip’s integrated HDMI receiver included allows an ImageProcessor to directly receive the digital HDMI signals. The DNX technology uses the following enhancement techniques:

DNX Rich Color Processing
DNX Video Enhancement Processing
DNX Noise Reduction
Digital Deflection Control

The DNX chip also provides digital keystone correction.

At 1000 ANSI lumens the units brightness is suitable for the minimal ambient light situations associated with home theater. The IN78EX has a native resolution of 780p (1,280 x 720).

Also noteworthy is Infocus’s commitment to cinema quality color with the unit being calibrated to D65 color mastering standards.
