Dai Nippon Printing Adds In-built Speaker to Crystal Illusion Transparent Projection Screen Series – Review

DNP has added New Transducers Limited’s (NXT) SoundVu flat panel speaker technology to it’s Crystal Illusion Screen lineup. The SoundVu technology speaker emits sound by sending vibrations throughout the entire display panel.

Crystal Illusion Transparent Projection Screen Technology

At the 2005 Society for Information Display (SID)/ Information Display Magazine Display of the Year Awards at the SID 2006 International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd. (DNP) received a Gold Award for it’s Crystal Illusion Screen. The Society for Information Display (SID) is a well recognized international professional society devoted advancing electronic-display technology, manufacturing, and applications.

Crystal Illusion Screen is a transparent, front projection screen that is surface coated with a special film of cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) materials. The screen reflects light from a predetermined wavelength range efficiently but, far less light from wavelengths outside this range. Any commercially available projector can be used with Crystal Illusion Screens. It is possible to have bright clear images even in bright ambient light settings.

The Crystal Illusion Screen series have a peak gain of 2.0 and 50% transparency. They are available in sizes up to 75 inches diagonal in a widescreen16:9 format. Screens in various tints such as smoke, brown, blue and light blue are available to match differing décor colors.<.p>

New Transducers SoundVu Speaker Technology

New Transducers (NXT) term their speaker technology “distributed-mode” as opposed to the traditional ‘pistonic’ loudspeaker. The diaphragm in a conventional speaker acts as a piston in producing soundwaves. NXT’s SoundVu panels operate in a very different way, by (quoting NXT) “initiating and exploiting multiple, organised bending resonances in the panel”. The distributed mode behavior produces complex vibration which in turn creates the sound required. SoundVu applications can employ more than one exciter, allowing stereo or multichannel sound to be reproduced from a single panel.
