Toshiba TLP-XC2500AU Projector with Integrated Document Camera Review

Toshiba have just released the TLP-XC2500AU LCD, XGA (1024 x 768) resolution projector with integrated document camera providing presenters the flexibility of incorporating written media, smaller objects and even microscopic samples into their presentations.

The document camera is deployed by simply extending it from the projector and positioning it over the object to be captured. The document camera is a 3 Mega-pixel CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) camera.

The TLP-XC2500AU has a brightness of 2,500 ANSI lumens which makes it suitable for coping with rooms with high ambient light levels. The contrast ratio is a reasonable 400:1 for the intended use by educators and business presenters. The built-in speakers are only 1W so external speakers should be considered depending on the presentation material.

The TLP-XC2500AU has a compact form factor but with a weight of 8.8 pounds couldn’t be regarded as a portable projector but, when compared to other such projector plus document camera combinations, fares well.

Given the environments the projector is likely to be used in, Toshiba have thought about security and provided a detachable control panel which disables the projector until the panel is replaced or a password entered on the remote control.

The Toshiba XC2500U projector is being sold with an extended three year warranty. Lamp life can be up to 3,000 hours in Eco-Mode.

Other notable features of the Toshiba TLP-XC2500AU are:

  • LED illumination for the document camera;
  • Digital zoom (1.2x) and automatic vertical keystone correction (+/- 30 degrees) for projector set up flexibility;
  • One-touch auto setup from the remote control;
  • instant power shut down – no cool-down time required;
  • presenters monitor-out capability allowing the presenter to face their audience directly while seeing what is on the screen behind them;
  • quiet operation of only 33 decibels (dB) (in low mode) – quieter than a soft conversation.
