InFocus IN82 Full HD 1080p Home Theater Projector

The InFocus IN82 Play Big was InFocus’s first Full-HD 1080p (1920×1080 pixels) DLP home theater projector. The DLP chip driving the projection engine is the latest and most advanced DarkChip3 by Texas Instruments. The IN82 has an excellent native contrast ratio of 4000:1 which can extend to 12000:1 through the in-built iris technology.

The single chip DLP projection engine has a high end 7-segment color wheel to reduce the possibility of any rainbow effects.

Installers will appreciate the InFocus Color Gamut Calibrator and ISF Day & Night presets which will allow them to “lock in” optimized calibration settings for consumers.

Installation Flexibility

Unfortunately the projector doesn’t have lens shift but, does have +/- 13° vertical digital keystone correction. For flexibility in position from the screen, the projector has lens zoom of 1.2:1. InFocus have done an excellent job with the availability of a wide range of connection types for a home theater projector. The projectors audible noise level of 30dB is not a market beater.

DarkChip3

The InFocus IN82 uses the .95 1080p DarkChip3 DMD microdisplay chip from Texas Instruments. The DarkChip3 is the latest DLP technology offering higher brightness and contrast then previous versions. It has the full two million and some micro-mirrors for the 2 megapixels required for 1080p high definition display. This gives the IN82 native 1080p resolution without relying on Wobulation, or Smooth Picture (Texas Instruments terminology), as do units using the .79″ version of DarkChip3 having a native resolution of 720p (1,280 x 720).

Pixelworks DNX Video Processing Technology

The Play Big IN82 comes with integrated Pixelworks DNX (Digital Natural Expression) 10-bit video processing technology. This is the same outstanding processing, de-interlacing, and scaling performance as the award-winning InFocus Play Big IN7x series.
Pixelworks is a semiconductor company that designs, develops and markets system-on-chip semiconductors and software for the advanced display industry. The DNX video-processing chip improves the quality of the source video through specialized enhancement techniques. The chip’s integrated HDMI (latest version 1.3) receiver included allows an ImageProcessor to directly receive digital HDMI signals. The DNX technology uses the following enhancement techniques:

  • DNX Motion-Adaptive De-Interlacing
  • DNX PixelBoost
  • DNX Rich Color Processing
  • DNX Video Enhancement Processing
  • DNX Noise Reduction
  • Digital Deflection Control

The DNX chip also provides digital keystone correction.

Warranty

The rated life for the lamp is a comparatively reasonable 2,500 hours. The warranty on the lamp is 6 months and for the projector – 2 years.
