The Optima EP771 and EP772 could be thought of as fraternal twins with the only difference being the slightly higher brightness of 3,500 ANSI lumens for the EP772 compared with 3,000 ANSI lumens for the EP771. It would take a look at the nameplate to distinguish them.

Optoma advertise the EP771 as a “crossover” projector capable of performing in both the home theater and business environments. With 3,000 lumens of brightness you don’t need a darkened home theater environment which also applies to business applications where is could tolerate bright ambient light. Probably the only reason to select the EP772 would be for a larger projected image size.
Both projectors utilize a DLP projection system based on a single 0.7” XGA DDR by Texas Instruments. The high contrast ratio of 2,300:1 is suitable for the application. The projectors are advertised as having onboard sound however, it would be advisable to have external speakers as the 3W speaker is unlikely to satisfy particularly for a home theater experience. There is a 12-Volt trigger for an electric projection screen. With a weight of 7.3 lbs (3.3 kg), neither the EP771 or EP772 can be considered portable.
Features to satisfy the business user are;
- native XGA (1024×768) resolution,
- laser pointer and mouse built into the IR remote control,
- USB connection for direct loading of media files,
- ceiling mount,
- D-Sub 15pin, VGA output, monitor loop through to allow presenters to face the audience and still see what is displayed on the screen.
For setup flexibility the Optoma EP711 and EP772 have a manual zoom lens (1.15:1) and vertical keystone correction of ± 15°. The estimated lamp life of 2,000 to 4,000 hours depending on mode. Neither projector has award winning noise levels with the relevant figures being 36dB in normal mode and 31dB in economy mode.
The EP771 and EP772 come with a 1 year limited parts and labour warranty with 90 days on the lamp.
