HP’s SL4278N and SL4278N MediaSmart 1080p LCD HDTVs will connect with your wireless home network (integrated 802.11n) and allow you to view videos, photos or listen to music stored on devices attached to the network. Additionally, they have a broadband Internet connection for accessing on-line media. The MediaSmart is a HDTV that has the convergent capabilities that have anticipated but not emerged as a market force.

The 47 inch SL4778N and the 42 inch SL4278N MediaSmarts are 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution LCDs. As with their MediaSmart lacking sibling models, the LC4276N, LC4776N and 720p LC3772N, they have a brightness of 500 cd/m² (nits) which is more than adequate for a typical home viewing situation - as are the contrast ratios of 1500:1 for the SL4278N and 1200:1 for the SL4778N. Avid gamers should note the fast 6 MS response time. An integrated ATSC/NTSC/clear QAM Tuner gives the flexibility to receive HD and digital shows from off air sources and cable. Both televisions have a generous 176 degree viewing angle.

JVC’s Clear Motion Drive II

JVC’s LT-37X987 and LT-32X987 HD LCD TVs come with the second generation of JVC’s Clear Motion Drive (CMD) namely Clear Motion Drive II. The technology was developed by JVC to reduce blurring of moving images. To do this Cler Motion Drive uses a frame doubling driver and motion interpolation. When motion is detected in images, CMD II doubles the frame rate inserting an interpolated frame between originals giving a smoother progression and reducing blurring.

Optima’s HD72 could be thought of as a middle-of-the-road or value-for-money model in Optoma’s 720p high definition (HD) home theater projector range. The HD72’s Texas Instruments DLP technology is in the form of a 0.62 inch DarkChip 2 which brings with it Brilliant Color technology for impressive onscreen colors. The combination of Brilliant Color, a high contrast ratio (3500:1 to 5000:1 with AI) and 1300 lumens brightness is designed to produce images with rich colors and deep blacks.

Optoma HD72 for Business and Pleasure - A Tax Deduction?

Optoma class the HD72 as a home theater projector but, its fairly unique 16:10 aspect ratio gives a 1280×768 resolution as opposed to the common 1280×720 pixels. This gives the business application flexibility of being able to project XGA (1024 x 768) with the projectors native resolution -which will naturally produce a clearer image than one which has been scaled. Being over 7lb the HD72 doesn’t really fit in the portable category but, close enough to be acceptable to many. Its rated noise level of 27dB is a bonus which presenters competing with noisy projectors would appreciate. The 1300 lumens brightness may give some problems with brighter ambient light environments where a large projected image is required. Whether the HD72 rates as a business tax deduction with home entertainment benefits will depend on the individual’s requirements. (read more..)
