Pixtronix has finished development of its new MEMS based PerfectLight DMS (Digital Micro Shutter) display technology. The display, demonstrated at this months SID Display Week 2009, delivers exactly what both consumers and manufacturers are looking for; significant energy savings (75 percent) without compromising video quality.
Samsung’s Series 8 Full HD (1080p) plasma HDTVs for 2009 feature increased energy efficiency, ultra-slim depth and media center features. Natural strengths of plasma televisions shine through with an enormously high contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a response time which is to order of a 1,000 times faster than LCD HDTVs (0.001ms) for fast moving on-screen action without blurring. It must be noted that these models are pleasing to the eye with their slim profile and their chrome-like, translucent accents to the bezel.
Micron have announced the addition of a wide-screen WQVGA microdisplay to their established microdisplay projection panel line (via Displaytech Inc.). This products FLCOS technology has some significant advantages over traditional LCOS and will find applications in the rapidly growing market for portable video and image projection applications for products including pico projectors, cell phone projectors and head-mounted displays (HUD).
