October 30, 2007Viewsonic Announces Five New DLP Projectors - PJ557D, PJ559D, PJ560D, PJ551D and PJ260DSomething that is striking with Viewsonic’s new DLP projectors specifications is the longer than usual three year warranty and the exceptionally long one year lamp warranty (four times the standard 90 days). Given that Viewsonic also advertises a long 4,000 hour lamp life, it offers a potential purchaser cost over life reductions and peace of mind.
In releasing five new models, ViewSonic seems to want to push on with its reported position, by Decision Tree Consulting Worldwide, of the fastest growing projector brand in the market in the first half of 2007. The five new projectors are the PJ557D, PJ559D, PJ560D, PJ551D and PJ260D which are being targeted at both educators and business professionals. The HP Digital Media Receivers, the and, provide access to digital content from a PC on a user’s wired Ethernet (EN5000) or wireless 802.11b (EW5000) home network. The HP Digital Media Receiver provides an out-of-the-box solution for converting a HDTV (or stereo) into a platform for enjoying what for most consumers is a rapidly growing archive of digital content including video, images and music stored on various PCs.

Toshiba’s new TLP-XC2500AU LCD projector has 2500 ANSI lumens of brightness and a 400:1 contrast ratio which make it suitable for projecting images in venues with considerable ambient light. Native resolution is the fairly standard XGA 1024×768 resolution expected of a projector intended for business or educational customers Technorati Tags: document cameras October 18, 2007Projector Equipped Mobile Phones to be Available by 2009Phones with in-built projectors should be available by 2009 according to a report by CNN. The micro projection technology is PicoP, the result of a July deal between Microvision and Motorola to develop a mobile device projection engine. Not only will it allow video for mobile devices to be viewed in a larger format but also applications such as portable navigation software for GPS enabled smartphones.
In September, Microvision picked up the 2007 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Innovation partly in recognition of a bi-directional MEMS scanning mirror design to be integrated in its PicoP projection engine. It’s no small achievement to project a suitably large image with the low power available in mobile devices. Microvision are intending to pursue the incorporation of the PicoP into other applications such as a heads-up display for a car GPS navigation device. Other micro projection technologies are in development including Digismart, a patented technology from Digislide. The MP771 is actually the first of a series of new projectors which will share the short throw feature. Having a short throw distance makes the MP771 suitable for use in cramped spaces which would have projectors with a longer throw producing an unacceptably small image. As an example of its capability, it is able to project a 74-inch image from only one meter.
Other features providing the MP771 with flexibility of use are the high 3000 ANSI lumens brightness and Wall Color Correction Technology allowing it to project acceptably bright and clear images in bright ambient lighting and against colored walls respectively. A high 2000:1 contrast ratio boosted by the Unishape Lamp Lighting technology will provide images with sharper detail. New content providers to join Yahoo!, AOL and Crackle include:
The good news for potential purchasers is that the Sony provided videos are free if you have a BRAVIA HDTV and the optional BRAVIA Internet Video Link module. Sony’s BRAVIA Internet Video Link is a small, attachable module which will fit to the back of a majority of the company’s 2007 BRAVIA television models, including all of the post June shipment BRAVIA LCD flat-panel TVs. The module provides convergence between your HDTV and the Internet plugging directly into an Ethernet connection. It will be interesting to see what market leverage content provision will provide Sony with sale of their HDTVs. The concept of Internet delivered video content is sure to gain a boost from a new light detector developed by Intel as reported by Technology Review. It will enable three core components of telecom networks to be manufactured from silicon using standard processing techniques, cutting costs compared to existing technology by hundreds of times. Resulting significantly cheaper Internet bandwidth will fuel Internet-HDTV convergent technologies such as Sony’s BRAVIA Internet Video Link Technorati Tags: BRAVIA Internet Video Link, BRAVIA HDTV October 15, 2007Colaborate with Hitachi’s New StarBoard FX-Duo-77 Multi-touch Interactive WhiteboardHitachi have released the StarBoard FX-Duo-77 multi-touch Interactive Whiteboard which feature the ability for users to collaborate using the board at the same time (two points of contact). The board can be operated using hand gestures such as the spreading apart of two fingers (no special pens or pointers required) to enlarge an on-screen object. Another useful feature is the selection of 24 customizable side buttons for quick operation of common tasks without navigating software menus. For peace of mind, Hitachi have contained the all FX-Duo-77 electronics in a replaceable component and covered it with a five-year warranty.
All StarBoards come with Hitachi Software’s StarBoard Software which includes a suite of presentation and conferencing utility tools and applications such as Microsoft PowerPoint. As with other interactive whiteboards the StarBoard Software includes interactive annotation tools, both handwriting and geometric object recognition capability and LAN or WAN networked conferencing features. If you are unfamiliar with Interactive Whiteboards you might like to read Presentation Technology Reviews overview of their features and capabilities. Other big budget 3-D movie projects in development such as Beowulf and the long awaited Avatar by James Cameron should ignite a wider spread consumer desire for a 3-D home entertainment solution.
TriDef’s 3D DLP (Digital Light Processors) HDTV accessory packs are one solution for watching the latest high definition 3-D movies and PC games on 3-D enabled DLP HDTVs. TriDef’s 3-D, technically termed “stereoscopic” vision, is based on each eye being exposed to slightly different perspectives (left and right eye perspectives). Our brain works the magic of fusing the images together into a single image (just as they do with our normal vision) with perceived depth. Technorati Tags: 3-D, stereoscopic
