December 31, 2007Pioneer KURO - 50 inch PDP-5080HD, Elite PRO-1150HD and 42 inch KURO PDP-4280HD, Elite KURO PRO-950HD WXGA Resolution Plasma HDTV ReviewPopular Science’s Best of What’s New 07 feature review of the Pioneer Kuro does not hold back praise. Popular Science named the Pioneer KURO the Home Entertainment Category Grand Award Winner stating “The company completely redesigned its plasma technology to produce the sharpest, most vivid picture you’ll find on any TV.” Perhaps it is Pioneers success with rejuvenating plasma technology that is behind Matsushita’s (Panasonic) plans to expand and strengthen its plasma display panel products.
The Pioneer KURO PDP-4280HD, PDP-5080HD, Elite PRO-1150HD and Elite PRO-950HD plasma HDTVs are all WXGA (1365 x 768) resolution with a 16:9 Wide-Screen Aspect Ratio. If in doubt about choosing between the WXGA or 1080p resolution models it might help to consider that the human eye has a hard time distinguishing between XGA and 1080p at around three meters from the screen. Also, at the moment the sources for 1080p video are limited including the Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats. December 10, 2007Panasonic 42 inch TH-42PZ77, TH-42PX77 and 50 inch TH-50PZ77 and TH-50PX77 HD Plasma HDTV ReviewThe resolution of both the Panasonic PZ77U models, the 42 inch TH-42PZ77and 50 inch TH-50PZ77, is full HD (1080p resolution - 1920 x 1080 pixels). The resolution of the 42 inch TH-42PX77 is 1024 x 768 and for the TH-50PX77 is 1366 x 768. All are equipped with an integrated ATSC tuner for HD reception. Notable features include; 10,0000:1 contrast ratio, EZ Sync HDAVI Control for one touch remote control of multiple home theater components, picture sharing with the built-in SD memory card slot, anti-glare filter slideshow capability with free integrated GalleryPlayer software and a good range of connectivity options. Naturally, with the plasma technology comes the superior motion image rendering compared to LCD displays.
With digital images now being stored predominantly in digital format, the SD memory card slot and GalleryPlayer software are welcome inclusions to these Panasonic plasma’s specification. They provide the modern convenience to load one’s own or visitors photos to share on a far larger, convenient screen than a cameras display or a computer monitor. LCD photo frames are a popular gift this season and Panasonic’s GalleryPlayer turns converts the plasma display into huge photo frame for slideshows. At 1080p resolution the Sony Bravia XBR4 40, 46 and 52 inch models have over 2 million pixels and are able to display the highest resolution high definition video sources available today such as is available on Blu-ray discs. All lesser resolutions are scaled to fit the displays available pixels.
From a technical viewpoint, notable features of the Sony XBR4 series include Motionflow for LCD blur reduction with fast action sport or movies, Deep Color for a greater color gamut and an excellent contrast ratio of 18,000:1 (dynamic) and 2,000:1 (on-screen). For smoother more natural looking images, Sony have included 24p input capability to capture movies and other video sources filmed or encoded at 24 fps (frames per second). The XBR4 models have picture-in-picture (PIP) and a side by side option (P&P). P&P is excludes dual HDMI feeds and for PIP the smaller image must be sources from the antenna/cable input. Other convenience features are freeze image and a favorite channel list. (read more..) Technorati Tags: Bravia, XBR4, Sony KDL-40XBR4, Sony KDL-46XBR4, Sony KDL-52XBR4, Motionflow
