Epson PowerLite 82C and PowerLite 62C Ultraportable 3LCD Projectors Review

Epson’s PowerLite 82C and PowerLite 62C are ultra-portable (5.9 lbs, 2.7kg) 3LCD projectors intended for use by presenters who need to be on the move. Both projectors have plenty of brightness at 2000 lumen to cope with higher ambient light situations if necessary. The brightness is complimented by a 400:1 contrast ratio. Native resolution for the Epson PowerLite 82C is the fairly standard XGA (1,024 x 768) for business projectors while it is SVGA (800 x 600 pixels) for the 62C.

Epson PowerLite 82C

Both projectors have a quick four second start off and instant off (no cooling time required) for quick set up and get-away. For setup flexibility the projectors come with a 1.2x optical zoom lens and have +/-30 degrees (vertical) of automatic keystone correction.

Both projectors produce a lot of lumen for the power consumed thanks to Epson’s new projector lamp technology called E-TORL (Epson Twin Optimized Reflection Lamp).

The Epson 3LCD technology has separate LCD microdisplay chips for red, green and blue avoiding the requirement for a color wheel and any possibility of color rainbows in image.

The Epson PowerLite 82C and 62C have a variety of input connections for different video sources such as PCs and DVD players. The projectors have an Auto Source Selection feature making setup simpler for presenters and keystone correction is also automatic.

The noise level for full brightness mode is 36dB compared to 30dBa for economy mode. At 36dB some presenters might find it distracting if close by but, the onboard speaker is a bit more powerful than usual at 5W. Epson have thoughtfully provided easy access to filters (clean filters extend bulb life) and lamps for replacement (even when ceiling mounted).

Other notable features of the PowerLite 82C and 62C include:

  • Monitor out for displaying images on a monitor and screen simultaneously so the presenter does not have to turn from the audience;
  • Security of password protection and operation lock for preventing unauthorized use;
  • Remote control which can emulate mouse functions and can act as an electronic pointer;
  • High Altitude Mode to quickly cool the projector in high altitude locations
    Included soft carrying case.
