Mitsubishi HC1500 720p 1600 lumens DLP Home Theater Projector Review

The Mitsubishi HC1500 is the very popular predecessor to the Mitsubishi HC1600 DLP projector which has spent time is bestseller lists. The specification is nearly identical, with the models sharing the same Texas Instruments DLP chip. The HC1500 has the reputation of a well performing and well priced 720p DLP projector and has been popular with gamers probably partly due to its high 1600 ANSI lumens brightness (now 1700 for HC1600) and good contrast ratio of 2500:1.

A significant difference between the HC1500 and its successor is the faster (4x vs 2x) color wheel speed containing 7 segments compared to the 5. A higher speed and more segments leaves the HC1500 less likely to cause susceptible viewers to see rainbow artifacts when watching fast moving action like sport or games. The color wheel includes a white segment which is a method used by manufacturers to boost brightness. Texas Instruments BrilliantColor is a feature of note.

Common with both models, and DLP projectors in general, is limited placement flexibility in regard to distance from the screen compared to LCD models. You do however, have the flexibility of ceiling or stand mounting. There is a reasonable range of connection options however, it should be noted that the HDMI is not the latest v1.3 so there is no Deep Color or xvYCC color standard support.
