Smooth120Hz

With the 835 DLP HDTV series, Mitsubishi has included the higher refresh rate of 120Hz to minimize any motion blur. While Mitsubishi have called their technology Smooth120Hz, Sony have Motion Flow, Toshiba has ClearFrame, LG – TruMotion Drive and JVC call it Clear Motion Drive II. The televisions video processor creates an interpolated frame between each existing frame to achieve 120Hz and make motion appear smoother for the viewer.

Mitsubishi 736 Series DLP 1080p HDTV | 73 inch WD-73736 and 65 inch WD-65736 Review

The Mitsubishi 736 series of 1080p DLP HDTVs reviewed consists of two models; the 73 inch WD-73736 and 65 inch WD-65736. Mitsubishi 735 Series DLP HDTV | 73 inch WD-73735, 65 inch WD-65735 and 60 inch WD-60735 Review

The Mitsubishi 735 DLP HDTV series reviewed includes three model sizes; the 73 inch WD-73735, 65 inch WD-65735 and 60 inch WD-60735. They are all large screen sizes because that is one of the inherent advantages of rear projection DLP HDTVs; a price advantage for screen sizes 60 inches and larger. All models display Full HD 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 HxV pixels). Although the 735 has a single DLP chip, a five segment color wheel is used to minimize any chance of rainbow effects.

Mitsubishi 735 Series DLP HDTV

The front of the Mitsubishi appears to be all display as the surrounding bezel is comparatively very thin. The slim depth and compact bezel make for a small form factor for a rear projection HDTV.

Key features of these models are the Full HD resolution, 3D readiness, good black levels and NetCommand for simple one remote control of multiple AV devices. DLP HDTVs are naturally a good display technology for fast moving on-screen action such as sports or games. DLP technology from Texas Instruments has an order of magnitude faster response time of eight-microseconds compared to response times measured in milliseconds for LCD displays. Another advantage or rear projection DLP HDTVs is their low power consumption which can be around half of other display technologies.

HDTV Resolutions

Before discussing high definition television (HDTV) resolutions it’s appropriate to dispel the myth that resolution is the most important factor in selecting a HDTV. In fact, according to the Imaging Science Foundation, a group that consults for home-theater manufacturers and trains professional video calibrators, the most important aspect of picture quality is contrast ratio, followed by color saturation (intensity), and color accuracy. Resolution is actually ranked in fourth position. Once you understand what resolution means you should follow up be reading our comparison of the 720p and 1080p HD resolutions.

HDTV Native Resolution

The native resolution mentioned in HDTV specification sheets is a measure of the number of pixels a display has. All video sources will be scaled to match the native resolution of the display. If the video source is a match then no scaling is required. If you are choosing a HDTV for gaming then you should match the screen native resolution to the video output resolution of your games console. This avoids the annoying scaling lag which can be annoying to avid gamers.

Pioneer KURO PDP-20FD Series | 50 inch PDP-5020FD and 60 inch PDP-6020FD Full HD 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

Display size is the only specification difference between the Pioneer KURO PDP-5020FD and PDP-6020FD. Both are Full HD 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. The predominant attraction of these plasma HDTVs is the exceptional black levels and the associated picture quality benefits. There is also a very useful 72Hz mode for smooth playback of 1080p24 sources (24 frames per second). Pioneer’s Home Media Gallery with networking capabilities and extensive audio, video and picture format compatibility is also attractive. Connectivity options match the premium nature of this HDTV.

Pioneer KURO PDP-20FD Series

Pioneer has put in the hard work to rejuvenate plasma technology and set their HDTV products ahead of the competition. Their reward has been reviews like a recent one in Popular Science’s Best of What’s New 07 feature that does not hold back praise.
