Samsung Series 6 Slim DLP HDTV 1080p | 72 inch HL72A650, 61 inch HL61A650, 56 inch HL56A650 and 50 inch HL50A650 RPTV Review

Samsung Series 6 Slim DLP 1080p HDTVs includes four models; the 72 inch HL72A650, 61 inch HL61A650, 56 inch HL56A650 and 50 inch HL50A650. If you’re looking for a rear projection DLP HDTV then these models will deliver the large screen size at a competitive price which most probably attracted you. The Samsung Series 6 DLP HDTVs have an excellent contrast ratio of 2,500:1 combined with deep black levels and produce sharp pictures with nice color saturation.

Samsung Series 6 Slim DLP HDTV 1080p

Series 6 DLP HDTVs are built around Samsung’s Cinema Smooth light engine optimized for high contrast and brightness and sharp detail. Samsung have slimmed the size and weight of their rear projection HDTVs and for the Series 6 models have also achieved a very narrow bezel surrounding the display.

Viewing angles for DLP projection HDTVs are not as good as for LCDs and plasma flat panels but, they are reasonable at 140 degrees (H) x 60 degrees (V). Samsung’s Series 6 DLP rear projection TVs have the most recent DLP chip from Texas Instruments. DLP microdisplays have an miniscule response time with the chip’s microscopic mirrors capable of switching on and off 15,000 a second. The fast response time results in blur free on-screen motion which is ideal for those who want to watch sports or use a game console. Those using these models for gaming will appreciate the Game Mode which amplifies the contrast in dark areas, enriches bass sounds and quickens the response time to game console creating the best environment.

Samsung’s DNle Pro Video Processing Technology

Samsung’s rear projection DLP HDTV models come with Samsung’s next generation DNIe Pro video processing technology which consists of a Motion Optimizer, a Contrast Enhancer, a Color Optimizer, and a Detail Enhancer. Video processing power is becoming a more significant factor to achieving picture quality with each generation of HDTVs.

3D Picture Capability of Samsung Series 6 DLP HDTVs

Using the latest Texas Instruments Digital Micro-mirror Device (DMD) has allowed Samsung to offer 3D picture capability. The DMD is able to generate separate left and right images which are necessary for stereoscopic (3D) viewing. To view 3D you need to purchase shutter glasses like those included in the DDD 3-D DLP Starter Pack. The shutter glasses ensure that the correct left and right views are displayed to the correct eye. The availability of 3-D content is limited however, 3-D cinema releases have been taking off in recent times (eg. Return of Superman, Meet the Robinsons, Monster House and The Mummy III).

WiseLink

Following the market trend for improved connectivity for different media storage formats, Samsung have included USB (WiseLink 2.0). WiseLink 2.0 (USB) supports MP3 and JPEG file formats allowing you to connect a digital camera, MP3 player or USB drive and easily access files for playback or display. There is a simple user interface to scroll through and view play lists and pictures. You can zoom, rotate or play photo slide shows and even add music.

Audio

SRS Lab’s TruSurround XT technology is included to create the virtual surround sound field of a home theatre using only the two 10W speakers.
