Mitsubishi 835 Series DLP 1080p HDTV | 73 inch WD-73835 and 65 inch WD-65835 Review

The Mitsubishi 835 series of 1080p DLP HDTVs reviewed consists of two models; the 73 inch WD-73835 and 65 inch WD-65835. Both models have identical features to the recently reviewed Mitsubishi 735 series DLP HDTVs with the addition of;

  • Smooth120Hz for blur reduction,
  • DeepField Imager for optimum brightness and contrast,
  • NetCommand IR for on-screen control of analog-connected audio visual electronics,
  • A front panel HDMI connection for easy connection of devices such as games consoles,
  • SharpEdge signal processing to enhance horizontal and vertical edges ie. to remove jagged edges,
  • PerfecTint for the independent adjustment of the six separate colors used by the Mitsubishi 835 DLP HDTV to render on-screen colors,
  • DarkDetailer dynamic aperture system to control projection lamp brightness and improve the contrast ratio over four times for more detail, particularly in darker scenes,
  • Wired IR Input for sending remote control signals from external computerized home theater control systems into the TV without the clutter of stick-on IR blasters.

Mitsubishi 835 Series DLP HDTV

Smooth120Hz

With the 835 DLP HDTV series, Mitsubishi has included the higher refresh rate of 120Hz to minimize any motion blur. While Mitsubishi have called their technology Smooth120Hz, Sony have Motion Flow, Toshiba has ClearFrame, LG – TruMotion Drive and JVC call it Clear Motion Drive II. The televisions video processor creates an interpolated frame between each existing frame to achieve 120Hz and make motion appear smoother for the viewer.

DeepField Imager

The DeepField Imager dynamically optimizes brightness and contrast. It analyzes 135 sectors of each onscreen image in real time and using advanced algorithms determines the best contrast and brightness settings for a balanced picture. It compensates for areas that are too high or low in contrast and/or too dark or bright.

NetCommand IR

NetCommand IR allows on-screen control of analog-connected AV products (eg. DVD player). Users are able to input what products are connected and teach the Mitsubishi HDTV what the IR (infrared) commands are for each. Life then becomes simpler with the one remote controlling other devices through the HDTVs NetCommand system. The Mitsubishi DLP HDTV comes with a 9 foot IR emitter cable that features 2 IR blasters for 2 controllable audio/video components and a male mini-jack connector that plugs into the back of the television. Netcommand’s IR blasters can also be used to control scheduled recordings of other connected audio/video devices.

Mitsubishi 2008 DLP HDTV Range Features Overview

The combination of improved contrast from the DarkDetailer dynamic aperture system and mimimized motion blur from the inclusion of Smooth120Hz should make the 835 series most desirable for gamers from the Mistubishi’s 2008 DLP HDTV range.
