LG LBX Series | 52LBX, 47LBX, 42LBX 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTVs Review

LG’s new LBX series of 1080p LCDs, called Opus, has some high end features such as 120Hz TruMotion blur reduction, wider color gamut for more lifelike colors, a USB port for viewing digital images (JPEG) and playing MP3 digital music with the USB Media Host application as well as three HDMI connections. Being 1080p resolution ( 1920 x 1080 pixels), the LBX models can show all the full high definition detail of the latest BluRay discs.

Contrast ratio is an important factor in picture quality and the LG LBX series all feature a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1. LG’s Super IPS technology LCD display delivers a wide 178 degree viewing angle without any color shift or dimming of the onscreen image. Sound quality has not been forgotten with the inclusion of SRS TruSurround XT – a virtual surround sound system which works with only two speakers.

TruMotion Drive (120Hz)

Motion blur is an inherent weakness of LCD displays. However, LG and other manufacturers have introduced technologies like 120Hz panels to smooth out fast moving on-screen motion and also combat any smearing or blurring as well of fast moving picture elements as common to sports broadcasts and games.

TruColor (Wide Color Gamut)

Using a wide gamut backlight LG have widened the gamut of available colors to 92 percent of the NTSC color gamut which brings images closer to those real life colors.

USB Media Host

Being able to access digital media with your HDTV is a feature desired by most consumers and LG has provided their USB Media Host for this purpose. It lets users plug in a USB flash drive and display stored JPEG digital images or play MP3 digital music files. Files can be navigated onscreen and JPEG images viewed as a slideshow which can even have background music from one of your MP3 files.

Connectivity

LG’s LBX models have built-in digital and analog tuners plus a QAM cable TV tuner for those with a cable subscription to watch unscrambled channels without using a set-top box.

LG SimpLink provides single remote button operation of HDMI connected LG SimpLink. LB SimpLink utilizes CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) which is supported by the HDMI v1.3 standard.
