LG LG60 Series | 32 to 52 inch 32LG60 37LG60, 42LG60, 47LG60, 52LG60 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Review

LG’s LG60 Series headline features include; Full HD (1080p) resolution, 120Hz TruMotion blur reduction, 1080p/24 compatibility, wider color gamut for more lifelike colors, 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs, USB port for viewing digital images (JPEG) and playing MP3 digital music and ISF calibration ready for professional calibration of picture performance. The LG 47LG60 was PC Magazine Editors’ Choice May 21, 2008. Stylistically, the LG60 models stand out for their high-gloss red cabinet rear which is why LG refers to them as “scarlet” models. The front is the contemporary gloss black. Of note is the market leading slim depth of these LCD models.

LG LG60 Series

Of note to gamers and sports fans is LG’s quoted response time of 2.7ms which is impressive, especially as it is for the gray-to-gray transition which is slower than the faster and more commonly quoted rise-and-fall transition figure quoted by LCD HDTV manufacturers. Contrast ratio is an important factor in picture quality and the dynamic contrast ratio for the LG60 models is a very respectable 50,000:1. LG’s Super IPS technology LCD display delivers a wide 178 degree viewing angle without any color shift or dimming of the onscreen image. Sound quality has not been forgotten with the inclusion of SRS TruSurround XT – a virtual surround sound system which works with only two speakers.

TruMotion Drive (120Hz)

To combat motion blur, an inherent weakness of LCD displays, LG has included 120Hz capability. It both smooths out fast moving on-screen motion and combats any smearing or blurring of fast moving picture elements as common to sports broadcasts and games. TruMotion processing also smooths judder in slow moving camera pans.

TruColor (Wide Color Gamut)

By using a wide gamut backlight LG has widened the available color gamut to 92 percent of the NTSC color gamut bringing images closer to those real life colors.

24p Real Cinema

If you have a 24p output capable device, such as a Blu-ray Disc player, you can watch films on a LG60 LCD HDTV at the 24 fps they were shot at. If video deriving from film is not viewed at 24p, inserted frames can cause some lack of smoothness (judder).

Optimized Picture for Viewing Environment using Intelligent Sensor

The ambient light and reflections within the viewing environment affect picture quality. As well as having a matte finish display to minimize reflections, LG60 models have an Intelligent Sensor uses 4,096 sensing steps to evaluate its surroundings. Using a sophisticated algorithm, the LG video processor optimizes picture quality elements including brightness, contrast, color, sharpness and white balance. A side benefit for consumers is power consumption reductions of up to 50 percent.

USB Media Host

Prompted by their ever growing digital media assets such as images, video and music customers are looking for consumer electronics which make them easier to share. LG has provided their USB Media Host for this purpose. Users can plug in a USB drive and display stored JPEG digital images or play MP3 digital music files. Files can be navigated onscreen and JPEG images viewed as a slideshow which can even have background music from one of your MP3 files. The USB can also be used to upload firmware upgrades which is an increasingly more desirable feature with the growing importance of software to a HDTV’s performance.

ISFccc for LG60 Series

The LG LG60 model LCD HDTVs support ISFccc (Imaging Science Foundation Certified Calibration Configuration) Modes. ISFccc allows professional calibration technicians to store their settings and details and enable ISF day and night modes, for best image quality in different lighting conditions.
