Sharp’s AQUOS D65U series of Full HD (1080p) resolution LCD TVs (including the LC-52D65U, LC-46D65U and LC-42D65U) feature a slim design with a piano black inner bezel and matching black outer frame. Combining circuit layout changes and a reduction in the number of parts, Sharp managed to reduce the depth by 25 percent compared to previous models. The D65U has twin 10W bottom-mounted, recessed speakers.

Key features of the D65U AQUOS series are Sharp’s proprietary Advanced Super View (ASV) / Black TFT Panel with multi-pixel technology and the Spectral Contrast Engine UD (Ultra Dark) which provides high dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and a comparatively fast pixel response time of 6 ms.

The 176 degree viewing angle (horizontal and vertical) is provided by Sharp’s use of their Super View liquid crystals molecules which are aligned to all directions, much like a firework burst. Super View liquid crystals has also helped improve black levels.

Also improving viewing angles is Sharp’s new Multi-Pixel Technology which combines dividing each pixel into two sections and a new advanced driving system. This technology delivers reduces the color shift at wider viewing angles inherent to LCD displays giving more natural and accurate color reproduction at wider angles (about 60 percent wider).

• Spectral Contrast Engine UD improves the deepness of blacks and provides fine contrast control
• Active Contrast Dynamic range extension is based on advanced real-time picture analysis
• Active Color picture processing delivers richer colors, particularly in bright scenes
• OPC (Optical Picture Control) automatically adjusts picture brightness to suit the surrounding ambient light level

The D65U has a conventional 3-wavelength backlight system. If color accuracy is an important consideration to you, then you might want to consider the Sharp D64U Series which has a four wavelength backlight system that adds a vivid crimson red to the standard red, green and blue to achieve deeper, more vibrant reds. The D94U Special Edition series has an even more impressive five wavelength backlight system.

The environmental impact of a HDTV extends well beyond the power it uses during operation to manufacture and disposal. Sharp have been active in reducing the environmental impact of the manufacturing process with it’s LCD television plant in Kameyama, Japan including one of the world’s largest roof-mounted solar electricity installations. All Sharp factories achieved green status according to international recommendations that combine economic efficiency, social-mindedness and environmental conservation.

Sharp factories cogeneration and photovoltaic power generation systems supply about a third of energy requirements. Carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by 40 percent per year. For easier, safer disposal Sharp products are designed and manufactured to virtually eliminate lead, mercury and cadmium.

The D65U series is ENERGY STAR compliant. Since November 1, 2008, the ENERGY STAR label on televisions designate the most efficient TVs in terms of overall energy use, rather than just standby mode which accounts for a small fraction of the power TVs consume. Televisions that meet the new Energy Star specification will be up to 30 percent more energy efficient than conventional models.

The Sharp D65U series has built-in ATSC/QAM/NTSC Tuners.

The customizable D65U remote provides the convenience of being able to control any CEC-enabled multimedia devices which have been connected using one of the Simplay compliant HDMI 1.3 inputs.
