Panasonic PT-AE3000U 3LCD Full HD1080p Home Cinema Projector Review

The Panasonic PT-AE3000U is a winner if you are looking for value for money home theatre projector. It has the latest technology and features and has gained some excellent hands-on customer feedback including a perfect 5/5 score on Amazon at the time of writing.

Panasonic PT-AE3000U Home Cinema Projector

The Panasonic PT-AE3000U is 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels) native resolution for the very best picture, without scaling, of Blu-ray DVDs. Contributing to excellent picture quality are the high brightness of 1600 ANSI lumens and a truly impressive contrast ratio of 60000:1. The PT-AE3000U is based on the popular 3LCD projection engine known for brighter images and more natural colors. The impressive contrast ratio is achieved with the assistance of Panasonic’s fifth generation intelligent iris system which determines the brightness level of each image then optimally adjusts the lamp power, iris and gamma curve.

The PT-AE3000U incorporates Smooth Screen technology, which uses the double refraction property of crystals to arrange pixels on a screen with no gaps between them. There is “chicken wire effect” with this LCD projector. On top of the excellent color reproduction of the 3LCD system, the Pure Color Filter Pro optimizes the light spectrum from the UHM projector lamp producing deeper blacks and purer primary colors. The LCD panels have a double-speed drive capability (120 Hz or 100 Hz) to improve the sharpness of fast moving images. New frames are interpolated for each existing frame by analyzing the characteristics of the two adjacent frames resulting in sharper, clearer images for those fast moving scenes in sports and action movies. In fact, the Panasonic PT-AE3000U allows you to choose between one frame interpolation and three frame interpolation.

The PT-AE3000U will handle up to 16-bit digital image processing making possible the support for Deep Color (smoother graduations between colors) and the x.v.Color (more lifelike color images) color space of the HDMI 1.3 standard.

The PT-AE3000U has an exceptionally wide range of image quality adjustment options available through the onscreen menu. A couple of notable associated features are the built-in waveform monitor and the adjustment split screen. The waveform monitor gives information on any part of the image and is ideal for calibration tasks. Also available for helping with adjustments, is the split-screen which allows you to see the before and after adjustment images side-by-side.

The PT-AE3000U is a superbly equipped for impressive setup flexibility and can be installed in various common positions such as front/desk, front/ceiling, rear/desk and rear/ceiling. Setup features include both horizontal (+/- 40 percent) and vertical (+/- 100 percent) lens shift which provide superior image quality to digital keystone correction. The optical power zoom of 2x (1.1 to 1.2 is a very common range for cheaper offerings) provides a wide zone (11´10˝ (3.6 m) to 23´7˝ (7.2 m) for a 120 inch image) in front of the screen where you can set up the projector for a particular size projected image.

A handy, novel addition is the focus/zoom memory function allowing you to save zoom and focus settings for different aspect ratios. Both the zoom and focus are motorized so you can adjust them from your armchair. A convenient onscreen test pattern is displayed when you enter the lens mode. Unfortunately, you are out of luck if you want a motorized screen as there is no trigger provided.
Very worthy of note is the whisper quiet 22dB noise level when operating in economy lamp mode (lower brightness). As you have 1600 ANSI lumens of brightness in full mode, running in economy mode in a home theatre situation should not be an issue.

The Panasonic PT-AE3000U has plenty of connectivity options including three HDMI v1.3 and two component input terminals.
