Samsung Series 6000 (6) LED HDTV Review

Samsung Series 6000 LED LCD HDTVs (55 inch UN55B6000, 46 inch UN46B6000 and 40 inch UN40B6000) are the entry level series of Samsung’s move from direct lit LED LCD HDTVs to edge lit. All the new 6000, 7000, 8000 (except B8500) LED LCD HDTVs (LED Luxia HDTVs) are edge lit.

LED backlighting vastly improves two inherent weaknesses of LCD display technology with conventional CCFL backlighting – low contrast ratios and less deep blacks. It shows in the exceptionally deep black levels and enormous dynamic contrast ratio (3,000,000:1) of the 6000 models. The additional move to edge lighting with the LED Luxia models has enabled Samsung to produce even thinner (1.2 inches) and lighter LCD HDTVs.

Other advantages of LED Backlighting include blur reduction (assisted by Auto Motion Plus 120Hz) for gamers and sports fans, a larger color gamut for more lifelike images, improved reliability and a faster response time (4ms). Advanced users will appreciate the new option to customize Auto Motion Plus by adjusting for judder and motion blur independently.

Samsung have boosted connectivity with no less than 4 HDMI ports (rear). Sound has not been overlooked by Samsung with the 6000 models featuring comparatively powerful 15W dual speakers with SRS TruSurround HD for virtual surround sound. Unfortunately, the 6000 models miss out on the Internet@TV Content Service, developed in association with Yahoo! They come with InfoLink which provides RSS feeds of customizable stock quotes, weather, sports news and articles.

While watching one of Samsung’s new generation of LED TVs you can feel virtuously green knowing that you have a HDTV using 40 percent less power (Energy Star V3.0 compliant) than conventional LCDs and which is also free of lead, mercury and other VOCs.

LED backlit LCD HDTVs are a significant jump in the quality and reliability of LCD HDTVs and are a must to investigate if you are in the market.
