May 7, 2009Mitsubishi Laservue 65 inch L65A90 3D Ready Laser DLP HDTV ReviewMitsubishi’s Laservue L65A90 claims a world first with a combination of a tri-color laser source with DLP microdisplay technology from Texas Instruments (TI). While other brands, such as Samsung, have gone with LED backlighting, Mitsubishi have bone with a laser source and it seems to deliver all the same benefits which have boosted LCD HDTV performance to a new level. TI technology also provides another notable capability of this HDTV – 3D readiness.
Laser use allows the LaserVue to achieve color gamut in excess of 200 percent of BT.709. More colors always translates to more realistic or lifelike image reproduction. Another feature of this DLP HDTV is an operating power consumption of approximately one third of a similarly-sized LCD TVs and one fourth of plasmas. Other features of Mitsubishi’s Laservue L65A90:1080p Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) pixels x.v.Color – implemention of the new xvYCC color standard providing an extended gamut (color space) some 1.8 times as large as the commonplace sRGB color space. With few x.v.Color supported video sources available at the moment its inclusion can be considered as future proofing. Deep Color refers higher bit number color in flat panel displays which reduces the chance of false contouring (looks like tidemarks) which can occur with extended color gamuts such as x.v.Color. Mitsubishi’s Easy Connect automatically recognizes inputs as they are plugged in. NetCommand allows for simple icon based control of most any brand of TV set top box, AV receiver or other home theater component from a remote. Smooth120Hz – the video processor creates an interpolated frame between each existing frame to achieve 120Hz and make motion appear smoother for the viewer. DeepField Imager constantly adjusts brightness and contrast for optimum settings in all areas of the picture. Mitsubishi’s algorithms dynamically adjust for areas that are too high or low in contrast and/or too dark or bright displaying the best balanced picture in every scene. PerfecTint – provides the ability to adjust the tint of six separate colors independently of each other and separately for every input. SharpEdge – is Mitsubishi’s latest edge-definition signal processing system for enhancing the rendering of horizontal and vertical edges for sharp images. Color 4D Video Noise Reduction is a suite of advanced algorithms filter video noise more efficiently for clean, crisp images. ResourcesAdditional information on 3D technology from Texas Intruments.
