Mitsubishi Unisen Series 149 | LT-46149, LT-52149 | Premium LCD Flat Panel HDTVs

Mitsubishi’s Unisen Series 149 consists of the 46 inch LT-46149 and the 52 inch LT-52149. They are worth a serious look if you are looking for a quality HDTV which includes a surround sound system. Both models include a fully integrated 16-speaker Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround system. It sounds like a lot of speakers and cables but, the surround sound effect is created from compact, integrated 16 speaker array, a Sound Projector (iSP), situated in a speaker enclosure below the display.

Integrated Sound Projector (iSP)

The iSP is a solution for those who don’t want a lot of speakers mounted around their HDTV viewing area, whether it be because of space limitations or a dislike of the clutter. The iSP works through the use of an advanced algorithm which delays the sound beams and projects them independently from the 16 speakers at varying intervals, to create fully immersive surround sound. The result is that the speaker array generates 5.1 distinct sound beams that are focused both directly and indirectly to the listener. From the diagram, it can be seen that the iSP makes use of walls and/or other surfaces to reflect the left, right and surround sound beams to the listener. With the sound beam reflection the side and back walls of the room become virtual speakers. For deeper bass tones there is a subwoofer or LFE channel available for easy connection to an external powered subwoofer.

Integrated Sound Projector (iSP)

The iSP will work straight out of the box having been calibrated to deliver surround sound in a typical room setting. However, the installation can be optimized using a simple graphical user interface to enter specific room dimensions and the location of main listening area. You can fine tune even further by positioning each channel via a test tone. Using the on-screen display, you can adjust the location and sound level for each of the five surround channels.

In regard to the LCD display, features include:

  • 1080p Full HD – resolution (1920 x 1080) pixels
  • UltraThin Frame – delivering a depth of less than one inch
  • 10-bit LCD panel – for wider color gamut (approximately 25 percent more) for more lifelike images
  • EnergyStar 3.0 compliance – for delivering a smaller power bill
  • x.v.Color – implemention of the new xvYCC color standard providing an extended gamut (color space) some 1.8 times as large as the commonplace sRGB color space. With few x.v.Color supported video sources available at the moment its inclusion can be considered as future proofing.
  • Deep Color – higher bit number color in flat panel display reduces the chance of false contouring (looks like tidemarks) which can occur with extended color gamuts such as x.v.Color.
  • Mitsubishi’s Easy Connect – automatically recognizes inputs as they are plugged in.
NetCommand allows for simple icon based control of most any brand of TV set top box, AV receiver or other home theater component from a remote.
  • Smooth120Hz – the video processor creates an interpolated frame between each existing frame to achieve 120Hz for smoother onscreen action and judder free panning shots.
  • Color 4D Video Noise Reduction – is a suite of advanced algorithms filter video noise more efficiently for clean, crisp images.
  • Six Color Processing – for enhanced color saturation. Rather than using only the red, green, and blue primaries to create all on-screen colors, this system analyzes the video signal and extracts the three secondary colors (cyan, yellow, magenta).
  • Plush 1080p – is Mitsubishi name for their scaling processor technology for converting other resolution video sources for the native 1080p resolution of the display. Accurate scaling is essential for a quality HDTV.
  • Tru1080p Processing – For optimum image quality, Mitsubishi passes 1080p video signals through video processing as 1080p as no scaling is required for a signal matching the native resolution of the display.
  • PerfectColor – provides the ability to adjust the intensity of six separate colors independently of each other and separately for every input.
  • Picture Mode – provides options for different lighting conditions and includes Natural (night), Bright (daytime) and Brilliant (strong light). High ambient light destroys picture quality so it’s well worth taking the trouble to control ambient light and get the best results from your HDTV purchase.
  • Game Mode – optimizes picture and video processing for gaming consoles as factors such as processing lag affect enjoyment when gaming but, not noticeable during video playback.
  • USB Photo Port – lets you load and view digital JPEG image files up to 5 MegaPixels on your large screen. The USB port is located on the front of the HDTV for easy connection of a digital camera, USB thumb-drive or USB card reader. Photos can be viewed individually, as thumbnails (10 at a time) or in a slideshow (adjustable times).
  • Wired IR Input - for sending remote control signals from external computerized home theater control systems into the TV without the clutter of stick-on IR blasters.Dolby Digital and
  • Dolby Pro Logic Processing
  • Digital Cable Ready HDTV with CableCARD Slot
  • TV Guide Daily
  • 4 Rear HDMI 1.3 Inputs
  • SimplayHD Certified HDMI
  • Side Component Input
  • 2 Rear Component Inputs
  • Partially Illuminated Remote
