Samsung Series 5 (B530) LCD Full HD HDTV Review

Samsung’s 530 models form part of the Series 5 LCD HDTVs with the other model designations being the 550 and 540. The 530 models include the 32 inch LN32B530, 37 inch LN37B530, 40 inch LN40B530, 46 inch LN46B530 and the 52 inch LN52B530. All 530 models have a Full HD (1080p) native resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). This resolution gives images of superb clarity with all the impressive detail of high definition. Through scaling by the video processor the 550 will handle 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i video inputs.

Helping achieve an excellent picture quality is a high dynamic contrast ratio of 60,000:1. The fast response time of 6ms means no problems with blurring of fast moving on screen action.

The differences between the B530 models and B550 are very few with the most obvious one being the different appearance with the Touch of Color being replaced by a transparent bottom decoration at the lower bezel’s edge. Another difference is the lack of a media play functionality to view jpeg images and play mp3 audio files. There is a USB input but, it is for firmware upgrades only. The contrast ratio is also different at 70,000:1 for the B550 models compared to 60,000 for the B530. The B530 has one less HDMI (3), one less component video (1) inputs.
