Panasonic launched new technologies and extended the coverage of some features in its 2009 Panasonic Plasma HDTV range. Notable features include ….
Neo PDP
Panasonic’s new NeoPDP technology has delivered a brighter display, doubled luminance efficiency, deeper blacks, improved contrast ratio and reduced power consumption (1/3 of 2007 models for the same brightness).
WirelessHD
Panasonic’s WirelessHD technology is able to transmit full HD video, audio and control signals wirelessly. Developed by Panasonic in collaboration with SiBEAM Inc., it can transmit uncompressed 1080p full HD content wirelessly with no deterioration in quality by using 60GHz millimeter wave radio.
Internet Enabled VIERA CAST
HDTVs continue to morph into media servers. The addition of Amazon’s VOD service on VIERA CAST allows viewers to stream video from Amazon’s extensive library. As before there is access to YouTube, Picasa Web Albums, Bloomberg News, a weather channel. Panasonic has improved the VIERA CAST interface.
THX Certified Display
THX Certification has been extended to more plasma HDTV series. THX certification indicates a HDTV has been tested and satisfied a wide array of benchmark standards including contrast, color, de-interlacing and black levels to name only some. All THX Certified Displays feature THX Mode which optimizes the viewing experience by providing a single button calibration.
VIERA Image Viewer
All models now come with VIERA Image Viewer allowing the viewing of images from an SD card slot.
VIERA Link
Another all model feature is VIERA Link which utilizes the HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) standard to allow consumers to operate all VIERA Link compatible A/V components using a single TV remote control combined with on-screen menus. Consumers can also link in a network camera for monitoring.
Environment
All 2009 VIERA HDTVs qualified for Energy Star certification. As with previous models, VIERA Plasma HDTVs are lead and mercury free.
The table below highlights those features which distinguish between the various models in Panasonic’s 2009 range. Check the full specification, read our series reviews by clicking the series designations and and find prices from Amazon by clicking the individual model links.
