Panasonic S14 Full HD 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

Panasonic’s S14 models, the 50 inch TC-50PS14 and 54 inch TC-54PS14, feature cinematic playback and Full HD (1080p) making them ideal for the movie buff who is not interested in the Internet connectivity and associated multimedia content available with some of the other Panasonic plasma HDTV series.

Panasonic VIERA S14 Plasma HDTV

Notable features of the Panasonic S14 include;

  • 1080p Full HD Resolution
  • 24p Cinematic Playback
  • 40,000:1 Contrast Ratio (native) 2,000,000:1 (dynamic) Infinite Black Panel
  • 3x HDMI

Panasonic’s new NeoPDP plasma display technology delivers significant energy efficiency improvements, enhanced brightness levels and a noticeable color depth advantage over previous models. The Panasonic S14 has an excellent 40,000:1 Contrast Ratio (native) and 2,000,000:1 (dynamic).

Native 24p playback (24 frames per second) available with the Panasonic S14 delivers movie playback matching that of the cinematic release when combined with a disc player which will skip the usual 3:2 pulldown and output a 24 fps video signal.

Two included features, which are common across the Panasonic 2009 plasma HDTV range, are VIERA Link and VIERA Image Viewer. The Image Viewer allows users to view their images (JPEG) and MPEG2/AVCHD* videos on a large HDTV screen using the SD memory card slot provided. VIERA Link utilizes the HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) standard to allow consumers to operate all VIERA Link compatible A/V components using a single TV remote control combined with on-screen menus.
* AVCHD is a format for recording and playback of high definition video jointly developed by Sony and Panasonic

If you like the idea of simplified connection and setup with other AV devices using a wireless network then the flagship Panasonic Z1 plasma HDTV with WirelessHD deserves consideration.

For movie fans, the Panasonic V10 plasma series with premium quality 24p movie playback and Digital Cinema Color offer the same experience as a digital cinema.
