Samsung Series 3 (B360 and B361) LCD HDTV Review

Samsung’s Series 3 LCD HDTVs are the entry level models of Samsungs LCD range. Every model features all the detail provided by 720p High Definition (HD). Models range from 19 to 32 inches and suit a smaller room or a desktop position. Notable features are the game mode, SRS TruSurround HD (virtual surround sound) and the reasonably fast 6ms response time (for an LCD). Game mode speeds up the image processing response for a more satisfying gaming experience. The 6ms response time translates to image sharpness during fast on-screen action such as with sports programs and action movies.

Many HDTV buyers move on to models with 1080p Full HD but, it is worth considering the likely viewing distance and checking with our 720p vs 1080p guide to see if you will actually notice any difference between the two native resolutions.

All models have digital and analog tuners as well as a QAM digital cable tuner for watching unscrambled channels without a separate set-top box. A useful feature is the Digital Noise Reduction feature which can help improve poor reception by reducing any static and/or ghosting.

Series 3 models have Samsung’s powerful video processor augmented with Samsung’s Wide Color Enhancer2 which optimizes each hue for rich, natural colors. A large factor in achieving image quality is the contrast ratio and the contrast ratios of the Series 3 models exceed those of models past.

Samsung has not ignored sound quality in any of its 2009 LCD HDTV models with all including SRS TruSurround HD – a multi-channel surround sound virtualization technology which produces a surround sound effect using only two speakers. It will handle up to seven (5.1) audio channels. Sound playback can be customized using one or the preset modes which include Standard (factory settings), Music, Movie, Clear Voice and Custom (5 band equalizer adjustment).

If you’re looking for a white bezel (display surround) or a headphone jack, then the 19 inch LN19B361 is the model for you.
