November 4, 2009Epson MovieMate 60 DVD Player and Projector Combo ReviewEpson’s MovieMate 60 DVD player and projector combo combines the essentials for enjoying home entertainment on a big screen in one convenient package. It’s a flexible home entertainment unit for viewing DVDs, enjoying broadcast HDTV, gaming (Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3 or Microsoft Xbox 360) to the big screen and karaoke. One can also connect PCs, camcorders and digital cameras to enjoy video and still images on a big screen.
Epson’s MovieMate 60’s projector is based on 3LCD projection technology. Is has a native resolution of 540p / WSVGA (960 x 540 pixels). Picture quality is supported by a dynamic contrast ratio of 3000:1. At 9.3 lb the MovieMate 60 is too heavy to be classed as portable but, it’s certainly manageable for taking out at suitable occasions. For convenience it comes with a carrying case and built-in handle. While a surround sound system to hook up with would improve the experience, the MovieMates come with perfectly adequate twin 10W speakers. This sound power level is what one might expect of a 40 – 50 inch widescreen HDTV. Epson’s MovieMate 60 has keystone correction (vertical only +/- 30 degrees) and digital zoom (1.35x) for placement flexibility. The MovieMate 60s brightness of 2000 lumens is the highest in the range and is suitable for situations where there is bright ambient lighting. To give some idea of the projected image size possible, for a screen to projector distance of 11.8 feet (3.6m) it will be 120 inches (3.05m) diagonally. Connectivity is reasonable including both USB and HDMI ports. Highlight Features for Epson MovieMate 60
