November 10, 2009Epson PowerLite 705HD Home Cinema Projector ReviewThe PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD is an affordable, 720p (high definition), widescreen projector which makes it easier than ever to enjoy spectacular movies, games and sporting events in the comfort of your own home. A USB port is available for loading and viewing photo slideshows on a large screen.
The projector is very bright at 2500 lumens which means it can still provide a bright projected image with a considerable amount of ambient light. The rated life of up to 5,000 hours provided by the energy efficient and long-life E-RORL lamp is notably high (dependent on use). The Home Cinema 705HD is based on the popular 3LCD, 3 chip projection engine. The contrast ratio at 3,000:1 is adequate but low compared to other Epson home cinema options. Combined with its light weight of 6.2lbs the Cinema 705HD can be thought of as a road warrior / home entertainment crossover. Auto vertical keystone correction aids quick setup although not with the horizontal positioning. A digital zoom of 1.2 gives some flexibility in distance of projector from screen. There is a reasonable range of connectivity options with HDMI, USB, Component Video, and S-Video digital connections. HDMI is convenient as it provides audio and video connection with just one cable. There is a single (1) W speaker which is only suitable for only a few viewers close to the projector. If the projector is to be used for a presentation there is a Monitor out (D-sub 15 pin x 1) for seeing what is on screen behind while still facing the audience.
