Sony BRAVIA EX700 1080p LED LCD HDTV Review

The Sony BRAVIA EX700 models are part of Sony’s 2010 range of edge-lit LED LCD HDTVs. There are four EX700 models giving a good range of display size options; the 52 inch KDL-52EX700, 46 inch KDL-46EX700, 40 inch KDL-40EX700 and the 32 inch KDL-32EX700. The EX700 models are identical to the recently reviewed Sony NX800 models except for 120Hz vs 240Hz MotionFlow LCD blur reduction and the absence of WiFi and Widgets. We have recently given our opinion on he value of 240Hz compared to 120Hz refresh rates. The EX700 models are also easy to distinguish from the NX700 and NX800 models as they do not have their monolithic design which makes them look like a thick slab.

Most notably, the EX700 models have the advantages of LED backlighting and the real life detail of Full HD 1080p resolution suitable for Full HD playback from Blu-ray disc players. While they don’t have WiFi, the EX700 models have an Ethernet port for Internet access and access to BRAVIA Internet Video (including Netflix and Amazon Video on Demand). Also present are CineMotion for reverse 3:2 pulldown and 24p playback capability for films shot at 24 frames per second. If you have kids who wander off leaving the TV on then you will especially appreciate the Presence Sensor which turns the display off after you leave the room and puts the TV into stand-by mode after 30 minutes.

For an extensive discussion of the features of the NX700 models read our recent review of the Sony NX800 models.
