Samsung C6500 | 1080p Full HD 120Hz LED LCD HDTV Review

Samsung’s C6500 1080p Full HD 120Hz LED LCD HDTV series was a CES 2010 Innovations Honoree. The series comes in four display sizes; the 55 inch UN55C6500, 46 inch UN46C6500, 40 inch UN40C6500 and the 32 inch UN32C6500. The C6500 have the latest LED backlighting which delivers a dynamic contrast ratio of 6,000,000:1 which underscores the superb picture quality. The C6500 models have a truly ultra slim depth enabled by the use of LED edge lightning.

While they have superb picture quality, the C6500 models don’t have Samsung’s new Pinpoint Dimming which brings the local dimming, previously only available with full array LED backlit LCD HDTVs, to edge-lit LCDs – see our reviews of the C8000 models. For an explanation of the differences between different LED LCD backlighting arrangements read our comparison of LED LCD backlighting types.

If you are not interested the new 3D technology then you aren’t paying for it with the Samsung C6500 models. While not having 3D processing capability, the video processor will improve the sharpness of fast on-screen motion (common to sports broadcasts) by doubling the frame rate to 120Hz interpolating extra frames of video to smooth motion. An often closely associated feature is judder reduction for combating judder which may result from films shot at the slow 24fps standard or 3:2 pulldown to match source and display frame rates.

A handy, time saving feature for those who have limited knowledge of resolution formats is BD Wise which is a Samsung HDMI connectivity feature which automatically sets the optimum resolution for an video source.

A highlight of the C6500 models is the wide range of multimedia content source options including network and Internet connectivity for live information feeds, real time movie downloads, network access to digital media storage devices (including PCs) and HDMI enabled access to connected AV devices.

For more in-depth coverage of the features mentioned and other features common to the Samsung 2010 LED LCD HDTV range read our review of the C7000 models. Compare prices and read customer reviews using the links below.
