3M DB578 Digital Whiteboard and SCP716 Super Close Projection System Review

3M’s DB578 Diagonal Screen Digital Whiteboard combined with a 3M SCP716 Super Close Projection System and a computer (PC or Mac) makes a complete electronic whiteboard solution. The combination delivers all the features which make an electronic whiteboard capable of presentation interaction for a collaborative environment.

3M DB578 78IN Diagonal Screen Digital Whiteboard

The 3M DB578 Digital Whiteboard is has a durable porcelain enamel layer over a steel writing surface which provides long term resistance to scratches, stains and graffiti. With the marker position feedback determined by a corner mounted e-beam system, the board itself is free of embedded electronics for worry free cleaning and use as a basic dry erase whiteboard.

As expected, the 3M electronic whiteboard allows presentation material to be annotated, printed (printer not included) and saved in a large variety of common digital formats. The software package powering the electronic whiteboard is intuitive to use especially with the handy, side mounted interactive tool bar and onscreen keyboard which make it easier to work from the whiteboard itself rather than the computer. Being able to import and work with Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and numerous image format types makes life easier. A very worthwhile optional addition is handwriting recognition (Optical Character Recognition or OCR) for making annotations editable.

Full details of the software tools available are listed on the hyperlinked resources below. The demonstration video brings to life how the 3M electronic whiteboard can be utilized.

3M SCP716 Super Close Projection System

The 3M SCP716 Super Close Projection System uses 3M’s Vikuiti technology which can project the same size image from 40 inches (1 meter) as a conventional projector can from 10 feet (3 m) away. The projector has a very high 2400 lumens brightness which is capable of producing a very bright projected image even with the high ambient lighting levels in a classroom or office. The native XGA (1024 x 768 pixels) resolution is a good match for current PC and Mac resolutions. As well as PCs can Macs, the SCP716 is also compatible with other A/V devices such as DVD players and camcorders.
