QD Vision and LG Display to Develop Quantum Dot LEDs (QLEDS) Active Matrix Displays

QD Vision was the subject of a Presentationtek article some 12 months ago which reported on the extraordinarily promising performance and manufacturing features of QD Vision’s new breakthrough Quantum Dot LED display technology. While the technology is still in the development phase the joint development agreement with LG will accelerate development of some exciting new display products.

QLEDs offer some exciting benefits to the display market including:

Up to 40% lower power consumption – QLEDs have a 30-40% luminance efficiency advantage over the already efficient OLED (organic LED) display at the same color point.

Over 50% lower cost manufacturing – a combination of being able to be processed in solution and printed on large-area ultra-thin flexible substrates promises to deliver significant manufacturing cost reductions over current conventional display technologies

Ultra-thin, transparent, flexible form factors – will give engineers the capability to develop new display with form factors just not possible with existing display technologies.

Tunable color solutions – varying the size of quantum dots used allows the color of the light produced by excited quantum dot electrons to be tuned with a color gamat of over 100% NTSC achievable along.
