Samsung D7000 Plasma 3D 1080P 600Hz Smart HDTV Series 2011 – PN64D7000 , PN59D7000 and PN51D7000 Review

Samsung’s D7000 plasma 3D 1080p Smart HDTV series is one notch above the 3D entry level D6500 series of Samsung’s 2011 range. This series extends the size range to a 64 inch PN64D7000 and also includes the 59 inch PN59D7000 and the 51 inch PN51D7000. The D7000 models share most features with the entry level series apart from different styling, swivel base, improved contrast ratio of 25M:1 compared to 5M:1 and BD Wise technology.

Samsung D7000 Series Plasma 3D 1080P HDTV

One of the biggest killers of contrast ratio is reflected light from light sources in brightly lit rooms. If possible it is always best to try and reduce light levels – especially light directly incident on your HDTV. If this is difficult to achieve or the HDTV will be used mostly for daytime viewing then it may be the reason you choose this model over the entry level model. With the D7000 model Samsung has included their Real Black Filter which preserves contrast ratio against incident light. Having recently watched Cowboys and Aliens it is easy to imagine how the plethora of dark scenes in this movie would loose all detail with a poor contrast ratio.

Also included with the D7000 model is Samsung’s BD Wise Technology which automates the process of selecting the best resolution setting possible for viewing Blu-Ray DVD products. This is somewhat of a simplification but, accurately describes what is achieved. It’s a useful convenience but, shoppers should be aware that it will only work with more recent high end Samsung Blu-Ray players. The feature can be turned off to allow manual settings.
