May 21, 2011Samsung D6500 Plasma 1080P Full HD 600Hz Smart HDTV Series 2011 – PN59D6500 and PN51D6500 ReviewSamsung’s 3D 1080p D6500 series plasma HDTV is the entry model for Smart Hub capability in Samsung’s 2011 range. Both models – the 59 inch PN59D6500 and the 51 inch PN51D6500 come with built-in WiFi, Samsung Apps, AllShare (DLNA device connectivity) and ConnectShare (USB access). Being one of Samsung’s Smart Hub range means the D6500 plasma provides outstanding content access options. The D6500 series features Samsung’s new Plasma +1 Design ultra-thin bezel with more screen area with the same overall dimensions. With a pixel response time of 0.001 seconds the D6500 series is free of motion blurring. A 5 million:1 dynamic contrast ratio helps deliver excellent picture quality.
3D in 1080p Full HD3D playback capability now extends across much of the 2010 plasma HDTV range. The active 3D technology requires the viewer to wear active shutter glasses. Samsung now supplies two pair of 3D glasses with each HDTV and sells extra ones for a significant discount at around $50 each. To improve the brightness of 3D playback Samsung have included their proprietary 3D peak algorithm which enhances peak brightness about 20 percent while lowering energy consumption by 15 percent. The technology makes darker scenes in 3D look suitably bright. Samsung has also moved to counter the limited range of available 3D content by including a feature which upconverts 2D video to 3D. Do not expect similar video quality to native 3D. Plasma HDTV are an excellent choice for 3D as they have a pixel response time in the order of a thousand times faster than LCD HDTV which means they are not susceptible to motion blurring as with LCD HDTV. Samsung’s Smart HubKey features which make up Samsung’s Smart Hub for the D6500 plasma’s are: Samsung Apps which can be sourced from the world’s first HDTV-based apps store. ConnectShare Movie provides video and movie playback and photos display from a connected USB drive or digital camera. Videos, music and pictures are accessed via a user-friendly interface using the remote control.
