Samsung Series 4 720p High Definition LCD HDTV 22 inch LN22A450, 26 inch LN26A450, 32 inch LN32A450, 37 inch LN37A450 and 40 inch LN40A450 Review

Samsung’s Series 4, 720p High Definition A450 model LCD HDTVs share the same specification as Samsung’s recently reviewed Series 5, A550 models with the following differences;

  • Lower 720p 1366 (H) x 768 (V) pixels resolution vs 1080p
  • Lower 5,000:1 contrast ratio vs 15,000:1
  • Slower 8ms response time vs 5ms
  • Narrower 160 x 150 (H/V) degree viewing angle compared to 179 degrees
  • No USB2.0 (Wiselink) port

Samsungs LCD HDTV Series 5 has four 550 models, the 37 inch LN37A550, 40 inch LN40A550, 46 inch LN46A550 and 52 inch LN52A550. All are full high definition, 1080p (1920(H) x 1080(V) pixels), with a built-in ATSC/Clear QAM digital tuner. The contrast ratiois an impressively high 25,000:1 benefiting picture quality with more detail in very dark or bright scenes. The Energy Star compliance offers considerable power savings and is worth considering in a purchasing decision.

Samsung Series 5 1080p Full HD LCD HDTV

The fast 5ms response time of these Samsung LCDs will be appreciated by those who wish to use them for gaming. It reduces the likelihood of any annoying motion blur which LCD panels are suspect to. Samsung’s Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (SPVA) panel provides an excellent 178 degree viewing angle.

Samsungs LCD HDTV Series 6 has three models, the 40 inch LN40A650, 46 inch LN46A650 and 52 inch LN52A650. All are full high definition, 1080p (1920(H) x 1080(V) pixels), with a built-in ATSC/Clear QAM digital tuner. The ultra clear panel used by Samsung enhances contrast which actually an exceptionally high 50,000:1 benefiting picture quality with more detail in very dark or bright scenes. The energy efficiency of these new models is also worth considering in a purchasing decision.

Samsung Series 6 1080p Full HD LCD HDTV

Samsung’s Series 6 LCD HDTVs (end with A650) have a distinctive red translucent tint to the glossy black frame which is most pronounced in the bezel. Samsung call it “Touch of Color”. The series 6 models need to be viewed in person to gain a reasonable appreciation of their color and styling. The red tint is a brave marketing feature but, the image quality alone should sell this HDTV as evidenced by its best seller status. For convenient viewing alignment adjustment the screen sits on a swivel pedestal stand.

Mitsubishi HC1500 720p High Definition DLP Home Theater Projector Review

The HC1500 is a native 720p (can handle up to 1080p) projector which provides high definition for the home at an affordable price. This DLP technology projector produces a bright 1600 ANSI for a home theater projector and has an excellent 2500:1 contrast ratio for delivering image quality.

The DLP chip for the Mitsubishi HC1500 is a Texas Instrument DDP3020 DLP chip with BrilliantColor processing technology. BrilliantColor technology utilizes a color-processing algorithm and system level enhancements to enable higher brightness while providing truer and more vibrant colors. The technology enables a greater brightness increase in mid-tone images in HD projection. A seven segment color wheel goes with the single DLP chip and as with any such projector design you should have a test viewing of the projector to see if you are susceptible to seeing any rainbow effects.

ViewSonic PJ503D and PJ513DB DLP Projectors Review

Viewsonic’s PJ503D and PJ513DB according to user forums are considered as performance value projectors for a budget price. They are versatile projectors suitable for small offices, classrooms and home theater use. Both DLP projectors have a native SVGA (800 x 600 pixels) resolution but will support 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p and 1080i video sources.

Mitsubishi 73 inch WD-73734 65 inch WD-65734 and 57 inch WD-57734 1080p DLP HDTV Review

The Mitsubishi 734 series 1080p DLP HDTVs have a mostly common specification with the 733 models. However, Mitsubishi have added to technologies which improve contrast ratio – a primary contributing factor to picture quality.

DarkDetailer – because a DLP rear projection system is used, Mitsubishi have been able to include a dynamic aperture system to control projection lamp brightness and improve the contrast ratio over four times, providing a wider array of colors and shades for more detail (greater depth) particularly in dark scenes.

The Mitsubishi Diamond 733 series (73 inch WD-73733 65 inch WD-65733 and 57 inch WD-57733 1080p) DLP HDTVs all offer Full HDTV resolution on a large screen. They have some of the latest HDTV features to future proof them such as x.v.Color support, three 3.1 HDMI connections and the ability to control multiple AV devices from one remote with Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) being implemented.

The 733 series DLP rear projection HDTVs have a single DMD chip and color wheel configuration. The Digital Micro Device (DMD) chips have over 2 million microscopic tilting mirrors on each chip for controlling the light to each of the over 2 million pixels required for 1080p high definition. Drawing on Texas Instruments BrilliantColor technology, Mitsubishi have implemented a color wheel which includes yellow, cyan and magenta as well as the conventional mix of red, green and blue. With the wider color palette to work with, the 733 models are able to produce whiter whites and a wider range of colors for more vibrant and life-like images. Samsung HL-T6189S, HL-T5689S and HL5089 LED Backlit Slim DLP HDTV with Bluetooth Review

All 89S models have identical specifications to the 87S series apart from the addition of Bluetooth. Bluetooth allows users to connect a Bluetooth headset which might be one of Samsung’s range including the recent WEP500 (one of the smallest available today) and the WEP420, WEP410 and WEP210.

Samsung 61 inch HL-T6189S Slim Depth 1080p DLP HDTV

A small specification difference with the HL5089 model is that unlike the other 89S models it has HDMI at rear. It is however, missing the rear PC input (D-sub).

Samsung 61 inch HL-T6176, 56 inch HL-T5676 and 50 inch HL-T5076 Slim Depth 1080p DLP HDTV Review

Samsung’s 76 model range (61 inch HLT6176, 56 inch HLT5676 and 50 inch HLT5076) are attractively priced DLP rear projection DLP full HD (1080p) televisions which feature a clean modern style with a thin 0.8 inch bezel and remarkably slim depth suitable for shelf or wall mounting. Other headline features are the inclusion of SRS TruSurround XT virtual surround sound, built-in NTSC/ ATSC/ Clear QAM tuners, Game Mode, PC input, USB (digital photo display), three HDMI connections and single remote control over other digital devices. Contrast ratio is a significant factor contributing toward picture quality and all the models in the 76 series have an excellent 10,000:1 contrast ratio.
