Epson MovieMate 55 Home Theatre Projector Review

Epson’s MovieMate 55 home theatre projector is as popular as it’s siblings, the MovieMate 50 and MovieMate 72, because of its complete entertainment solution capabilities. It truly embraces the “combo” label by combining a projector, DVD/CD player, twin Dolby 5.1 Digital 8W speakers and USB and other inputs to allow the playing of DVD movies, music CDs, MP3, WMA, photo CDs, JPEG, Video CD and DivX movies to name a few compatible formats. It’s a simple matter to hook up an Apple IPod, Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3 or Microsoft Xbox 360 for further music, video or gaming entertainment options.

Epson MovieMate 55

The Epson MovieMate has a native 480p (854 x 480 pixels) resolution to match the built-in progressive scan standard definition (480p) DVD/CD player (slot loading at front of projector). Through scaling the MovieMate 55 will handle a wide range of video resolutions up to 1080i. While it is not high definition the Epson MovieMate makes up for it with the combination of a large projected image and entertainment flexibility. If twin 8W (equivalent to what you would get with a HDTV) speakers is not enough you can connect to a stereo surround sound system using a digital coaxial (S/PDIF) cable.

The EX100 is notably the lightest and most portable of the EX business projector models with a very portable weight of 3.5lb/1.6kg. The EX100’s high brightness will support a large image size and will produce a clear projected image even in high levels of ambient illumination. The XGA resolution (1024 x 768 pixels) is one of the most common business projector resolutions sold matching widescreen PC monitor resolutions. Powering the Epson EX100 projector is the robust and popular 3LCD projection engine.

Epson EX70 3LCD Multimedia Projector, WXGA, 2000 Lumens Review

The Epson EX70 is one of EX range of 3LCD technology projectors targeted for SMB. As well as the popular, quality 3LCD projection engine, the EX70 features a native WXGA (1280 x 800 pixels) resolution to suit a widescreen business notebook PC or high definition home entertainment devices. In fact, a PC is not required as a presentation or images can be loaded from a USB drive or SD card. Something less to carry around. The Epson EX70 is portable at only 6.2 lb (2.8 kg). For quick setup there is automatic keystone correction and optical zoom while the quick shutdown function makes for a short pack-up time. Speakers should not be a problem as the onboard speaker is significantly louder than most similar projectors at 7W – similar to what’s available on a HDTV. For connectivity flexibility and less cables there is a HDMI connection.

Optoma EP-PK-101 Pico Pocket Projector Review

The Optoma EP-PK-101 Pico Pocket Projector is among the first of a new class of personal projectors to hit the market. It’s an ideal size for sharing images and videos from mobile devices (think personal media players, mobile phones, iPODs, PDAs, cameras and gaming consoles) with a small groups of friends. You can also have a large display while away from home without lugging a monitor. The shiny, piano black Optoma is pocket size small at 1.97 x 0.59 x 4.06 inches (50 x 15 x 103 mm) and a feather weight at 4 oz (114g) - with the battery in. Optoma’s pocket projector is based on Texas Instruments’ DLP Pico projection technology and has a HVGA (480 x 320 pixels) resolution.

Optoma EP-PK-101 Pico Pocket Projector

The projected image can be from 6 to 60 inches (0.15 to 1.5m) with the projector positioned between 10 and 102 inches (0.25 to 2.6m) from the screen. There are limitations however, as the maximum brightness is only 9 lumens. Essentially, you need a low ambient light level to view any larger projected image clearly. Considering that this projector may replace the use of a portable notebook, which also cannot be viewed in bright light, this may not be such a problem for potential users. A tripod adapter is included so you can place the EP-PK-101 on a tripod for projecting. No keystone correction so you have to have align the projector square to the projection surface.

Epson EX30 3LCD Multimedia Projector, SVGA, 2200 Lumens Review

Epson EX30 Projector. The Epson EX30 Projector is an entry level, 3LCD, SVGA native resolution multimedia projector marketed by Epson for the SMB (small/medium business). Standout features are the popular 3LCD projection engine, excellent 2000 ANSI lumens brightness and high 2000:1 contrast ratio. It should be noted that the SVGA (800 x 600 pixels) resolution is lower than the most common XGA resolution (1024 x 768 pixels) for PCs. Due to scaling any higher resolution source image will not be as clear.

Epson EX30 3LCD Multimedia Projector

Epson have a complete EX range of business projectors built on a similar 3LCD projection platform. The recently reviewed Epson EX50 has an almost identical specification apart from;

Epson EX50 3LCD Multimedia Projector, XGA, 2200 Lumens Review

Epson EX50 3LCD Multimedia Projector has the native XGA resolution (1600 x 1200 pixels) suitable for interfacing with a PC for its intended purpose as a SMB (small/medium business) projector. At 6.2 lb (2.8 kg) rates as a portable business projector.

Epson EX50 3LCD Multimedia Projector

The Epson EX50 is based on the 3-chip optical engine technology that is 3LCD. The 2200 ANSI Lumens is excellent for providing a bright projected image when there is a considerable amount of ambient light. Contrast ratio is an important factor in producing a quality projected image and the 2000:1 rating of the Epson EX50 is more than satisfactory.

Epson’s PowerLite Home Cinema 720, High Definition 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) projector is very affordable with excellent brightness and placement flexibility backed by a two year warranty including an attractive overnight replacement service. The projector has proved a popular purchase for gamers.

Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 720 Projector

A good contrast ratio is an important factor contributing to a good image and the 12,000:1 contrast ratio of the Home Cinema 720 is an excellent figure amongst its peers. Lamp brightness is 1600 lumens meaning you can enjoy the large projected image even in a room open to daylight.
