December 15, 2007Sharp AQUOS 52 inch LC-52D92U, 46 inch LC-46D92U and 42 inch LC-42D92U 1080p LCD HDTV ReviewThe AQUOS 92U series, including the LC-52D92U, LC-46D92U and LC-42D92U, is a premium LCD HDTV offering from Sharp. All models are Full HD 1080p resolution and have enhanced black levels with an Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 15,000:1. Being 1080p consumers can enjoy movies on Blu-ray and games on PlayStation 3. In line with the FCC mandate, the AQUOS 92U models all come with analog (NTSC) and digital (ATSC) tuners. They also have a QAM tuner for digital cable channels.
Response TimeSharp dominates the competition with the AQUOS series very fast 4ms response time. Response rate refers to the time for a pixel to change colors in milliseconds. A faster response time reduces the risk of motion blur effect (streaking or ghosting) LCD televisions are suspect to. (read more..) June 5, 2007Sharp XR-40X, XR-30X, XR-30S Portable Projectors IntroducedThe three new lightweight DLP projectors expand Sharps range of lightweight Notevision portable projectors for business, education or mobile presenters. Sharp advertise them as suitable for data and video projection.
Both the XR-40X and XR-30X have native XGA9 native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution while the XR-30S has a lower specification native SVGA (800 x 600) resolution. The units can handle plenty of ambient light with the XR-40X having a brightness level of 2600 ANSI lumens and both the XR-30X and XR-30S having a brightness of 2300 ANSI lumens. A 3x speed 4-segment color wheel with an enhanced white color segment helps white level and brightness. Contrast ratios are also more than adequate at 2000:1 or over. (read more..) February 23, 2007Sharp DT-500 Home Theatre Projector ReviewThe Sharp DT-500 DLP projector is part of Sharp’s High Definition Home Theatre Projector series and has a native resolution of 1280 x 768 (WXGA) provided by a DarkChip 2 DLP chip by Texas Instruments. The DT-500’s brightness level of 1200 ANSI lumens is the highest in Sharp’s high definition home theatre projector range and more than suitable for its intended home theatre application. At 1200 lumens a moderate amount of ambient light is tolerable while still projecting a suitably bright projected image. The 4,000:1 contrast ratio is excellent.
Texas Instruments DarkChip 2 DMD Microdisplay ChipsetThe Sharp DT-500 projector is based on microdisplay technology having a single Texas Instruments DarkChip 2 DLP chip. The chip has millions of tiny mirrors that switch on and off some 15,000 times per second to create the video output required. This sort of speed is required for delivering sharp pictures for sport and other fast movement video. One of the features obtained with using the DarkChip 2 DMD is BrilliantColor which is a Texas Instruments trademarked technology for delivering improved brightness and a wider range of colors. Traditionally, most display devices render images using a combination of the three primary colors red, green and blue. The full gamut of colors visible to the human eye cannot be reproduced using this approach, with the color space subset covered not including vivid colors such as yellow and cyan commonly seen in nature. By processing up to six color channels BrilliantColor allows vendors, such as Sharp, to create multi-primary color systems by adding colors such as yellow, cyan and magenta colors for color rendering. As well as increasing the color space which can be rendered with the added color filters the system also utilizes the light source more efficiently with a 50% increase of 50% brightness. In the case of the XV-Z3000, Sharp are using a 6-segment color wheel capable of x5 speed. The higher speed and large number of segments greatly reduces the possibility of viewers noticing any rainbow effects associated with single chip/color wheel DLP projection systems. (read more..) February 21, 2007Sharp XV-Z3000 Home Theatre Projector ReviewThe Sharp XV-Z3000 DLP projector is part of Sharp’s High Definition Home Theatre Projector series and has a native resolution of 1280 x 768 (WXGA) provided by a DarkChip 2 DLP chip by Texas Instruments. The XV-Z3000’s brightness level of 1200 ANSI lumens is the highest in Sharp’s high definition home theatre projector range and more than suitable for its intended home theatre application. At 1200 lumens a moderate amount of ambient light is tolerable while still projecting a suitably bright projected image. The 6,500:1 contrast ratio is excellent.
