Toshiba 19LV505 and 19LV506 19 inch LCD HDTV/DVD Combo Review

Toshiba’s 19LV505 (black) and 19LV506 (white) are 19 inch LCD HDTV/DVD combo units which can act as a compact, space saving entertainment center. DVDs are side slot loaded and the stereo speakers are bottom mounted. Toshiba have included ATSC/NTSC/QAM digital tuning for tuning of standard cable channels as well as off-air digital broadcasts, in addition to digital “cable-in-the clear” broadcasts.

Toshiba 19LV505 19 inch LCD HDTV/DVD Combo

As these combo LCDs could likely be used as a monitor Toshiba have given them a high WSXGA+ (Wide Super Extended Graphics Array) or 1680 x 1050 pixel resolution. The contrast ration is 800:1 which short of the exceptionally high numbers some LCDs have been getting lately. Gamers will appreciate the sharper images the fast 5ms response time will deliver. The viewing angle range for the display is not a market beater but, an adequate 160/160 H/V. For convenience, given the locations it may be situated, there is a digital clock included.

Toshiba TDP-ET20U Multimedia DVD Projector Review

Toshiba advertise that the TDP-ET20U is both a home theater and business projector. However, its specifications do not match this dual role expectation. With it’s sleek, black piano finish casing, the Toshiba TDP-ET20U looks more like a home theater projector than a business projector. An attractive feature for the home theater purchaser will most likely be the in-built DVD player.

Toshiba TDP-T45U Mobile DLP Projector Review

Toshiba advertise their TDP-T45U DLP projector as an all rounder capable of being used for professional presentations or for home entertainment. The TDP-T45U has the primary qualifications for both duties with an XGA (1024×800) resolution, 2500 ANSI lumens of brightness and a good contrast ratio of 2000:1. The DLP (digital light processing) projection engine is a single 0.55″ DMD from Texas Instruments.

Toshiba TDP-T45U Mobile DLP Projector title=

For the presenter there is a remote control, RS232C (mini DIN-8 pin) PC socket and a D-sub 15-pin monitor output so the presenter can face the audience while seeing what is on the screen using a monitor. What might be missed by some is a USB port to connect USB drive for loading multimedia files rather than a PC (laptop) which is sizeable something extra to carry. The projectors onboard 1W speaker is probably suitable for sound effects and little else. Toshiba provide a carry bag for the projector.

SED Production to Start End 2006 - In Line With Competitor?

Construction of a mass production line for SED (surface conduction electron emitter display) flat-panel televisions will be started by Canon and Toshiba by the end of this year according to a report in Japanese financial daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The production line at Toshiba’s Himeji factory in Hyogo Prefecture is expected to require and investment of 180 billion yen from the partners. Their aim is to be able to mass-market the products in time for the shopping season for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

SED is a new flat panel display technology which uses the same principal as in a traditional cathode ray tube television (CRT) of electrons exciting a phosphor coating. However, with SED there is a surface conduction electron emitter for every individual display pixel. Unlike CRTs, SED televisions have a very slim form factor similar to plasma and LCD televisions yet share the advantages of high brightness, high contrast ratios, response times and excellent picture quality. SED features high-resolution images with less power consumption than plasma and LCD displays. Toshiba’s display at this years Consumer Electronics Show (CES) featured an SED theater with 36 inch prototype on display.
