BrilliantColor![]() BrilliantColor is a Texas Instruments (TI) trademarked technology for DLP DMD chips delivering improved brightness and a wider range of colors. HDTV Resolutions![]() A lot of recent HDTV advertising has focused on display resolution. But, there is much more to consider in making a purchase as resolution is not the most important factor in selecting a HDTV. In fact, according to the Imaging Science Foundation, a group that consults for home-theater manufacturers and trains professional video calibrators, the most important aspect of picture quality is contrast ratio, followed by color saturation (intensity), and color accuracy. Resolution is actually ranked in fourth position. Contrast Ratio Secrets Uncovered![]() The contrast ratio is the ratio of the luminance of the brightest color (white) to that of the darkest color (black). Contrast ratio is an important factor in producing a high quality image and definitely a point of consideration in the selection of any kind of display device. Generally a picture with a higher contrast ratio is perceived as being sharper. However, contrast ratio should not be your primary criteria. 1080p vs 720p or Full HD vs HD Resolution![]() The 1080p vs 720p, or 720p vs 1080p, resolution decision [(1,920 x 1,080 pixels) vs (1,280 x 720)] should be made with an appreciation that resolution is not the only factor contributing to picture quality. In fact, resolution comes fourth in a recent SMPTE (Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers) study which ranked contrast ratio, color saturation, color temperature or greyscale ahead of it in ranking picture aspects the human eye sees in order of importance.
