Sony Announces New Content to be added to BRAVIA Internet Video Link Service

New content providers will bring Internet video to Sony’s BRAVIA Internet Video Link service for download by users with BRAVIA HDTVs equipped with the optional BRAVIA Internet Video Link. New content providers to join Yahoo!, AOL and Crackle include:

Sony’s BRAVIA Internet Video Link

  • CondéNet - four new Internet channels later this month, offering award-winning fashion content from Style.com, lifestyle content from Men.Style.com, food/dining content from Epicurious.com, and travel content from Concierge.com
  • Sports Illustrated - opening with the magazine’s annual swimsuit issue including behind the scenes videos and interviews and other sports content at a later date
  • blip.tv - the recently launched social media Internet channel will bring content from Rocketboom, Unleashed, Break a Leg, Alive in Baghdad, Goodnight Burbank and Geek Entertainment TV
  • Sony Pictures - two new Sony Pictures Internet channels add televisions programs and promotional trailers with a focus on shorter programs

The good news for potential purchasers is that the Sony provided videos are free if you have a BRAVIA HDTV and the optional BRAVIA Internet Video Link module.

Sony’s BRAVIA Internet Video Link is a small, attachable module which will fit to the back of a majority of the company’s 2007 BRAVIA television models, including all of the post June shipment BRAVIA LCD flat-panel TVs. The module provides convergence between your HDTV and the Internet plugging directly into an Ethernet connection.

It will be interesting to see what market leverage content provision will provide Sony with sale of their HDTVs. The concept of Internet delivered video content is sure to gain a boost from a new light detector developed by Intel as reported by Technology Review. It will enable three core components of telecom networks to be manufactured from silicon using standard processing techniques, cutting costs compared to existing technology by hundreds of times. Resulting significantly cheaper Internet bandwidth will fuel Internet-HDTV convergent technologies such as Sony’s BRAVIA Internet Video Link and HP’s MediaSmart 1080p LCDs.

TriDef 3-D DLP HDTV Packs for 3D Home Theater - Review

The release of 3-D movies such as Meet the Robinsons and Harry Potter have introduced movie goers to the modern cinema 3-D experience. Other big budget 3-D movie projects in development such as Beowulf and the long awaited Avatar by James Cameron should ignite a wider spread consumer desire for a 3-D home entertainment solution.

TriDef’s 3D DLP HDTV accessory pack

TriDef’s 3D DLP (Digital Light Processors) HDTV accessory packs are one solution for watching the latest high definition 3-D movies and PC games on 3-D enabled DLP HDTVs. TriDef’s 3-D, technically termed “stereoscopic” vision, is based on each eye being exposed to slightly different perspectives (left and right eye perspectives). Our brain works the magic of fusing the images together into a single image (just as they do with our normal vision) with perceived depth.

High Ambient Light Optical Projection Screens - dnp Supernova Review

The dnp Supernova Optical Front Projection Screen was designed for use in high ambient light environments. It is advertised as delivering up to ten times higher contrast and two times brighter images than conventional front projection screens.

Based on some groundbreaking technology, the dnp Supernova projection screen has won technology awards and favourable mention at both InfoComm 2005 and CES 2006. DNP (Dai Nippon Printing) developed Supernova in Japan and the screens are manufactured at DNP facilities in Denmark.

An optical front projection screen, the dnp Supernova incorporates advanced brightness and contrast enhancing technology.

Optical System

The optical system functions two ways:

  • Projected images pass through an optical lens system, which focuses and concentrates the light before it is reflected back towards the viewers perpendicular to the screen surface.
  • A patented contrast enhancement filter, covering some 60% of the screen, absorbs diffuse light from sources such as windows and lighting.

The DNP Supernova screen is not a traditional projection screen rather an advanced optical lens system. Instead of reflecting light in all directions the DNP Supernova enhance the image for optimum viewing by combining the focusing abilities of a Fresnel lens with the distributive properties of lenticular lenses (diffuse the illumination in a single direction).

Audio and Video Connectors

Connectors for audio visual equipment can be classified into three categories; audio, video and composite. Composite connectors can carry both audio and video.

Composite Connectors

HDMI (High-Definition Multi-media Interface)

HDMI is a relatively new industry-supported connection. it is the only consumer electronics interface that can carry both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD formats. HDMI is used for devices such as STB’s (Set Top Boxes), Receivers and Display devices such as HDTV’s, LCD’s, Projectors and Plasmas. HDMI has two types; the standard Type A connector with 19 pins, and Type B with 29 pins - allowing it to carry an expanded video channel for use with high definition displays. Lack of a locking capability is a disadvantage. HDMI is a better choice than DVI for longer cable length applications.

Five Keys to Projector Screen Selection

You’ve done your research and chosen a projector, DVD player, speakers, amplifier, subwoofers, and cables. The budget is just about blown, but what about the screen? It’s tempting to just project directly onto a wall but, it’s a choice that will waste your investment.

Following are five key points to help you choose a suitable front projection screen.

1. Type

There are two basic types of screens, fixed or framed, and pull-down or roller screens.

A roller or pull down screen

A roller or pull down screen is a good general use screen and has the advantage that it can be stored away when not in use. Roller screens can be operated manually (pulled down), or motorised (remote control). They are suitable for wall or ceiling mounted options, or above the ceiling with additional components added in. The disadvantage of roller screens is that the material may become stretched with use over time. Moving parts and continual use can result in a piece of equipment that experiences wear and tear and may need parts replaced.
